Well, dude, as you so politely put it, I normally do not participate on the grand prix forums because of this type of reaction. You obviously, are quite misinformed about a few things so let's see if we can correct a few things and then you can do what you want.

    1. The U bend delete is good for about 10 hp on its own.

    2. A stock 3.1L in 2001 makes 175 HP. My 98 GT made 200 hp with the 3.8. The 2004 Impala as well as the 2001 buick with the 3.8L motor made 200-205 hp, depending on what you read. I have a pretty good reference for my comments.

    3. The stock 3.1L with the single exhaust and VERY restrictive single muffler benefits greatly, much more so than the GT or SC exhaust since the SE exhaust is very restrictive to begin with and going to a 2.5 inch single pipe with no U Bend and to a 2.5 inch split with 2.5 inch straight through Magnaflow mufflers could easily be good for 15-20 horsepower, not 4-5 hp. How do I know? 30 years of tingering with real sports cars, not FWD cars making 296 HP? Who is the fool there?

Bought the SE in 2004 for $5,200 with 49,000 miles and its been pretty reliable and intend to drive it for another 50,000 miles now that is at 100,000 miles. Who is the fool now?

I seriously doubt that your mufflerless 3.1L sounds better than the magnaflow mufflers and resonator. Are you serious with that comment?

i am a fool i am born in april, i was kidding around. catless dp with stock mufflers sounds fine. as for the 3100 sounding better than the 3800 it does because it doesnt have a rahtarted firing order

The GMPP exhaust, aka the magnaflow exhaust, I can assure you does not sound like a "fart cannon" and as noted above actually sounds better than the 3.8. I was quite impressed with the result. I tried posting some pictures through photo bucket and was unsuccessful but based on the sound clips on youtube of the various exhaust sounds on the GT's there, I am WAY ahead of the game with this exhaust on the 3.1L.

    Jesus...people.

You have a GT? Get a 3" Catted Downpipe (with the U-Bend Delete), put a glasspack in place of the stock resonator or LEAVE it there. Then, buy mufflers of your choice. IMO, Borla's sound tinny and Magnaflow's sound like ass. Let the flaming begin but if you do it RIGHT...read DO IT RIGHT. Flowmaster's sound pretty damn good.

Pacecrapper headers, cammed, 3" Custom Exhaust, stock GM res., no cat into Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers.

And to the tard who said take out the RESONATOR...ARE YOU RETARDED? I bet your car sounds like a pile of crap. I have a resonator and no cat...and there is NO RASP. At all.

I have a res. delete, cat delete, 2.5" all the way out the back to dual flowmaster superflow 44's and when it revs it sounds like a ricer i aint gonna lie. but when i drive it it sounds pretty good, the exaust queits down and i just hear the blower at WOT. Has a nice deep sound up to around 2500 rpm as well. cost me $400 for everything.

These people you want censored are the ones who really know everything about these cars. If you should listen to anyone on this forums advice its blue...Dont get me wrong he's still a asshole, and so am i lol, but regardless he knows what he's talking about and this questions been answered probably 30 times in the last 6 months, blues probably talked about this with newbs hundreds of thousands of times. He trys to guide people in the right direction and they take it for granted and get mad, while everyone else who doesn't know jack totally contridicts what he says. Normally if a vet of this forum gets mad, its because there sick of hearing the same crap over and over and over...IE, Exhaust threads, boostin an L36, will this pulley work, will my wheels fit, etc. Its all been done so search, listen and that will solve MANY issues

91 Cherokee- 4 in. Lift, 31 Kumho M/T, tons of fun

Don't misunderstand but I am sure that there are lots of people on this forum who know a lot more about the FWD GP's than I and others do but that is absolutely no excuse for poor behavior and just total lack of respect. I happen to be a member of a corvette forum (own a 78 L-82 4speed for 26 years and a mustang forum (1994 mustang GT convertible since new with 25,000 miles on it) and probably know a lot more than some folks here that are "experts" about those cars. If people ask the same questions over and over, you do what I do on those forums, don't participate, rather than call everyone names!

The ONLY reason I even contemplating participating in this thread was because having a 2001 GP SE 3.1 with the single exhaust and installing a magnaflow duals (GMPP Exhaust system) I thought was somewhat unusual since most folks don't mod the SE with the 3.1. The difference in power with the U bend delete was striking, more so than I thought. I thought some would like to know my experience. I was wrong!

    Right. About that...

It sounds like a ricer because of the resonator delete. Get one and it will go away.

Who was calling YOU names? Where is the lack of respect also? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, ESPECIALLY on the internet...I was telling the person that was giving advice on the resonator delete was a retard. Which...he might not actually be RETARDED...but to give advice like that is beyond "noob-ish". Plus, if you belong to a Corvette forum...then you should be used to all the ego-trip people...since about 90% of Corvette owners are stuck up and think their sh!t don't stink.

    ANYWAYS...

No resonator delete (Keep a stocker or get a glasspack)...High Flow, Stock, or a cat delete for the converter...Mufflers of your choice...and get headers or a 3" Downpipe & PLOG Front Manifold. The stock catback however is supportive up to 350 FWHP...so you can honestly leave that alone...unless you want crappy sound. The 3800 isn't a nice sounding motor...like Nick said, due to its odd firing order. Best sounding 3800 I have ever heard was a turbocharged one. Bar none.

Sounds as good. Not better. For the cost, absolutely.

My car old car was also a factory dual exhaust grand prix. Sounded much better than flows or dynomax. How do I know that? We slipped fit them on at the shop. Exhaust tips do make a difference as well.

Spend 450$ on a exhaust for a 3100, are you serious??

bluegtp91>>> I'm gonna let you slide this time. This tard has TOGS going to a 3" magnaflow cat and flowmaster y going to two 2 1/2 Cherry Bomb vortexs. Google them if you care to. No Rasp. Removed my glass pack because it didn't affect the sound at all. A catalytic converter will affect drone and rasp more than a resonator or glasspack. Don't care what anyone has to say on that. I put enough exhausts on cars and trucks every week to know this. No internet BS. Come across the river and I'll kindly let you hear my exhaust.

I have seen this response often on this and other threads. You guys need to get real about the differences between a 3.1 and 3.8 normally aspirated-THERE IS NOT A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THESE MOTORS!!!! Essentially a 3.8 is a slightly bored 3.1 that makes 25 horsepower more than my 3.1. How do i know this FACT other than looking at the specs is that I have had 3.8's in a 97 GT, 2004 Impala LS, and currently in a 2001 Buick-Wake up-The 3.8 versus the 3.1 is not like comparing an old chevy straight 6 to a 427 V8-There is very difference between a 3.8 and 3.1 and even a lesser difference in HP!

Let me slide? Thanks? The resonator gets rid of the drone dude...I've been there too...not like your the only one who has ever put exhaust on cars. Hence the name...it controls the RESONANCE of the sound. Sure...the converter might get rid of some of the rasp...But 50 times to 1...a 3800 car with a deleted res. sounds like epic crap compared to a cat deleted one...you should know this.
