Well, dude, as you so politely put it, I normally do not participate on the grand prix forums because of this type of reaction. You obviously, are quite misinformed about a few things so let's see if we can correct a few things and then you can do what you want.
1. The U bend delete is good for about 10 hp on its own.
2. A stock 3.1L in 2001 makes 175 HP. My 98 GT made 200 hp with the 3.8. The 2004 Impala as well as the 2001 buick with the 3.8L motor made 200-205 hp, depending on what you read. I have a pretty good reference for my comments.
3. The stock 3.1L with the single exhaust and VERY restrictive single muffler benefits greatly, much more so than the GT or SC exhaust since the SE exhaust is very restrictive to begin with and going to a 2.5 inch single pipe with no U Bend and to a 2.5 inch split with 2.5 inch straight through Magnaflow mufflers could easily be good for 15-20 horsepower, not 4-5 hp. How do I know? 30 years of tingering with real sports cars, not FWD cars making 296 HP? Who is the fool there?
Bought the SE in 2004 for $5,200 with 49,000 miles and its been pretty reliable and intend to drive it for another 50,000 miles now that is at 100,000 miles. Who is the fool now?
