bluegtp91, I'm proud that you can spell resonance, truly I am. I guess that's better than the previous name calling. If you don't think a catalytic converter affects sound as much as a resonator, fine. They're all components in a system but something down the line is picking up the slack of the cat delete.
Also one very important thing, a resonator is considered an additional muffler, taking care of whatever resonance the primary muffler can't handle. Therefore you get the right muffler in the first place instead of taking the word of the internet gurus or some low quality clip on youtube. Maybe thats why gutted cat cars sound good? Good combo of muffler and resonator? Just forget about the benefits of a cat. Or if he knows of a shop that will install a catless dp if he doesn't have the ability.
I'm not sure what chances 50:1 have with anything but letting a shop remove his res, hearing that then making the choice to leave it off or simply having it welded back on is better than spending money on a set of mufflers that he might hate and be stuck with. Or even better, see what the shop has in stock and have them slip fitted to hear before he buys? He said he didn't want to spend 800$, I took that as "what can I do for cheap?"
Ive put my opinion in, I've listened to yours. There we go.
Umm I think he's saying that, if you have to HEAR a pushrod V6 GM exhaust it's going to sound like s**t. he's right. Keep it as quiet, but with as much flow as possible and as least drone as possible.
