Thread: Coolant Flush, is this the "inlet"

I am going to flush (using a "Flush and Fill" kit) my Dex-Cool out tonight, but I've seen some confusing/conflicting information about which line is the "heater inlet" that I should tap in to in order to make sure that I flush out the whole system.

I stole the following image from someone else here and added a green line. Is that, the "top" hose which is closest to the alternator, the "heater inlet" hose that I should be tapping in to? This is for a 2000 GTP...

Thanks anyway. I ended up skipping the "Flush and Fill" kit (actually bought it, but didn't want to hook it to the wrong line), and instead just drained everything from everywhere else, manually flushed it through the reservoir, radiator top, and from the area under the thermostat until they all ran clean, then put it back together, filled with water, let it run for a LONG time to get up to temp (I could actually see the temp rise to 195* and then drop as the cooler water started flowing until it went up again).

Now I am letting the car cool down. I'll drain everything again tonight, and if it looks pretty clean, put in the right amount of antifreeze (Prestone 'all makes, all models' yellow) which if my math is correct, comes out to about 1.54 gallons (jugs). Top the rest off with water, bleed the lines and call it good. If there is still a good amount of pink color to the water, I may do another 100% water, warm up, and flush, but I hope not. I'd like to go to bed tonight.

Oh, and I am putting in a 180* thermostat when I put actual antifreeze in.

Actually, I should have clarified. By "radiator top" I mean through the radiator cap AND the top radiator hose (which I did as well as through the engine since I was removing the thermostat anyway)...

So here is the crazy thing. I got done flushing everything, and it all looked clear. I let as much of it drain as I could, and then put it back together. I started putting in the full strength antifreeze in (I needed 1.54 gallons to go in), but it was pretty much full with just 1 gallon in, even after bleeding the line above the t-stat. Maybe things will settle a little more after a drive or two and I can top it off more. If not, I'll have to drain some more out and keep adding until it is the right mix according to my little coolant level tester thingy...

99prixgt, my Dex-Cool looked nasty at the radiator cap and in the reservoir, but to be honest, when I was draining it, it seems like it was more of a "surface film" than anything. Everything else was coming out plain ol' pink. I did spray off some gunk from the walls of the reservoir, radiator hoses, and the top radiator "neck" where the cap goes.

Makes me wonder if it was replaced shortly before I bought the car a little more than a year ago. At the time it was an 8 model year old car with only 38,000 miles, but the stealership I got it from may have flushed it and thus the reason for it not being really horrible on a 9 year old, 54K mile car.
