So I have a 2004 Comp-g Gtp and I just noticed that the cooling fans are not turning on. I checked the three relays with an ohm meter and they are working fine.

    Also:
I turned on the AC and the fans still do not come on.
I unplugged the coolant temp sensor and the fans come on immediately.

Any idea's on what I can check or need to replace????

Ohm out each of the fans one might be bad. They are wired in series and so if one is dead neither will work. When the high speed fan is on then it connects each fan directly to power that's why you may have seen a fan running.

Ok, both fans on an Ohm meter say that they are working. If I unplug the coolant temp. sensor and unplug both fan connectors they both read that they are getting power. Yet if I turn on the AC which should turn on the fans they do not turn on.

I tried to bring the temp up of the car in the driveway but will not redline which is good. But it is cold out and I'm afraid when it warms up outside and the fans are still not working it will definitely overheat..

Could it be a bad coolant temp. sensor? and if so why are the fans still not turning on when the ac is turned on? does the coolant temp. sensor control that also?

Thanks again in advance for the help!!

Good to know yes it just about 30F out right now..

From searching I think it could be the coolant temp sensor or the PCM.
Does this sound right to anyone?

Obviously the coolant temp sensor is a cheaper fix but if its the PCM I'd rather save the money then buy both.

or I could leave the coolant temp sensor unplugged and they could run all the time.?.? not a long term fix though.

Your low speed fan temp doesn't even come on until 217* so you just might not be getting how enough yet. 04+ have really high temps so unless you have air trapped in the system or are just low on coolant try to verify that it is acually to the temp required for the fans to come on.

I will try that I guess; I was just convinced that they were not working after reading that turning on the ac should automatically turn the fans on. I recently completed replacing the lim gaskets (job I don't want to do again:lol)

I'll have to try and borrow a reader from someone to monitor the temp.
Just as the outside temp rises I'll have to really watch the engine temp.

    Thx. again

let it idle for 15-20 minutes, the fans will turn on sooner or later.

unplugging the the temp sensor defaults the fans to on full time. so your fans work, if they dont come on plugged in, the temp sensor is the first thing to replace.
