if you already have the gear in first, then the tranny dont have to downshift. when your buddy nailed it he was probably in 3rd gear and the tranny had to switch down to second then down to first, thus taking longer to take off. if your roll racing an auto you have to hit it a little before the third honk or your gonna get left while the tranny is downshifting. if you go ahead and put it in gear, it doesent have to downshift. BUT at the same time, if your buddy had nailed it a little before the last honk and his tranny ALSO was in first and dident have to downshift, it would be a close race.

go to the drag strip. run the car in manual, then run it in drive. you will get the same time. ive done it myself, and most of the time i ran slower in manual mode. even if you drop it in one or let the tranny do it itself, its still the same gear, no matter what.

long story short. you won the race because he was waiting for his tranny to down shift.

but theres ways around that, i have no problem roll racing, you just gotta know to hit the gas a little early so the tranny can start downshifting, no biggie.

yeah i know exactly what ur sayin. i just meant to say that it would be better to race in 1st when goin from a roll. but i guess the pcm and shift kit help out with that. thanks for not leaving sarcastic messages and instead teaching me more than i know now.
