So last month my newly acquired gt was making a loud whine going to the store, it was the trans pump. After barely getting home with trans slipping I parked it and I have no movement in ANY gear. Then if things couldn't get any worse my dog of 15 years was killed, had to sell my glock 21 to pay the vet $500. I sold the pistol for $600 and used the rest to get a trans from pick n rip, out of a 02 gtp that was rebuilt by lkq in 09. The windshield said runs and drives, plus it was t boned so I took the gamble. After four hours and almost collapsing (101° sunny day on the west coast) I had the 4t65e hd in the back of my jeep (minus tube and dip sick) with the free torque converter.

Now to the good part, a guy on cl is selling a 97 gtp for $600 it was t boned really bad. I hit him up and he said he would take $300 cash. I've got the cash now and will be going to pick it up today with $200 in my pocket. He got it for free so I'm pretty sure he'll take it.

Sorry for the life story but would you guys pull the 97 L67 and bolt it to the rebuilt trans and drop it in the $200 99 gt?

You could.. Or you could put the trans in your car and smile that it works well.

True but I know the egr/hydrolocking problem exists with the L36. Not to mention it's got almost 280k miles on the original motor and trans. If I swap the trans I still have to buy a passenger axle and a tune. Then let's say 500 miles later it decides to swallow coolant, I'd be really angry. I'm the type of guy that does it once the right way. But I don't know how involved the swap would be. Fuel lines, wiring harness ect

if you mod the lim on any n/a 3800 it cant hydro lock ever again.

you could swap but its a bit more work, pcm wire harness from the donor car.

Yeah I found that thread Scotty but between the girlfriend, rent and the other four projects I have currently I'm on a extremely tight budget. Just trying to do the cheapest thing without having to pull the motor a second time. Btw I will be using your how to remove a trans thread. Thanks a million it saved my butt getting that 02 4t65e hd

modding a lim costs like 10 bucks or so tops.

the intake swap is not worth doing at all on the n/a engines.

Scotty's how to remove a trans thread? Scotty...when did you do one?

If money is tight and you know your motor works fine, then stick with it and the good trans. You'll need a tune the min you start playing with mixing and matching. You also can't use a 97 engine harness w/o repinning some stuff on anything beyond a 97. Easy enough.. you just need to do the homework. And there's no reason to swap a harness when dropping in an SC motor. You can change the connector for map and add the bcs connector easier.

My apologies to Bill It was your thread. So I can use the 99 harness with the 97 L67? But not the ecu? Or just send of the 99 ecu for a tune to run the L67? Sorry guys I work nights and I'm supposed to be sleeping

Sleeping has nothing to do with this puzzle.. lol

If you are going to dump the parts into the 99 body. It's easiest to program the ecu to the SC motor and whichever trans you have than anything else.
In that tune, you'd have the 97 maf tables etc loaded in. Say you sent your ECU to Scotty. He'd bring whatever trans gear ratio in and load you up with a 97 L67 motor.

Then wiring wise, it's so easy to solder on the map connector and extend it to the sensor as the wire colors all match up on the map. And you'd pull the wiring to the BCS (boost control soleniod) from the 97 harness and add them to your 99 harness in the correct 99 positions.

Poof.. ECU and harness all done.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

That sounds like the best route to take. Thank you both so much. I'm excited to hear that whine. I would love to turbo it but a well know three letter company that likes to over charge for products scared me with their price tag. I'm sure I can get a used kit here but still the whole car was only $200 I'd be ashamed if I bolted a turbo kit that cost five times what I paid for the car
