here's part of their description on their website , pay attention to the bold words..

At ZZPerformance we always strive to have the absolute best products combined with the lowest prices to give you a great experience. Despite our best efforts, sometimes we fall short of the quality you've come to expect from ZZP. Looking at customer feedback, we learned that our ZZP gen 2 brand plug wires were one of these times.
unless of course you're saying that those particular wires on that car are not from zzp... i was just speculating they were since the car had a bunch of other zzp crap on it.

anyhow on zzp's website they had a write up called "mods not worth doing" ...which included coil packs and those $100 plug wires...but yet they sell them and give a sales pitch about how great they are and the gains you'll get...lol

    http://www.zzperformance.com/blog/mods-you-dont-need/

    Aftermarket coil packs

The stock ignition on a Grand Prix is very good. It is so good that we run stock coil packs on all of our cars at ZZP. Failure rate of stock coil packs is low and the spark output is extremely high. We have A/B dyno tested aftermarket coil packs and seen no difference in HP. We have seen many aftermarket units fail and when customers have a problem it’s very hard to diagnose with extra unneeded mods on the car.
The ignition control module sits under the coil packs. It sends a limited current to the coils for a predetermined pulse (dwell). You cannot change the wires or the coils to get ‘more spark’ because the ignition control module will not send more power to the coils. You would have to change the ignition control module for a significant increase. The MSD coils and/or the MSD wires are a downgrade in your ignition system in regards to the 3800. The best you can do is run a wire with slightly less resistance or more insulation. These are very small improvements but the only meaningful ones.
    Aftermarket Plug wires
Unless you have a problem with your stock wires, you don’t need to buy aftermarket ones. In our experience of working on GPs the failure rate of most aftermarket wires is 10 times that of stock wires. GM puts everything they have into making cars get the best mileage they can with the least amount of problems. A poor ignition system would increase emissions, which GM couldn’t afford. This means plug wires from the factory are designed for high spark, low radio noise and excellent performance. If you’re set on upgrading them forget about MSD and Jacobs.
The regulator controls the power of the factory ignition module in the 3800. The MSD wires have almost no resistance which puts a large demand on the coils to produce a lot of current (Ohm’s Law). Since the ignition control module limits the current to the coils, you end up with a poorly performing system. This is probably why we gained a consistant 4 HP going from MSD to our new ZZP wires and why MSDs have performed poorly in our high HP builds.

They also have a "high flow" fuel filter. ......it's just a Delco filter.

Guys I really appreciate the feedback! I am all in favor of HP but my #1 objective is longevity of the motor. I do have the torque pro app and the BT OBD II scanner, I didn't know I could see KR with that. The only reason I suggested de-modding was that I feel like I don't know what I don't know....

You guys are getting me comfortable with what I have so it sounds like if I go with the ZZP manifold log I should be good to go. I'm picking up the car on Sat and will post some more detailed pics so you can see exactly what's on the car.

Complicating factors: I just moved back to Long Island from Louisville and have not gotten my NY license yet....and I can't register the car in NY until I get a NY license. So I have to trailer the car back to the apt we are renting and put it in the driveway....I need to get my NY license so I can register the car in NY and get plates on it...the OBD scanner is in my toolbox which is in storage at the moment. Really can't do any work on the car until we find a place to live and get my tools out of storage.

Thanks again for all the feedback and keep those comments coming, I am learning a ton here.

I AM a bit of a leadfoot....what's the point of modding for extra HP if you can't romp on it?

Oh you can, I do on mine but only sometimes and not enough to overheat the trans or anything. Also not going to do burnouts or hit the gas right to the floor from a stop too often

Nice Find! If you were moving upstate a bit more, I'd throw in a helping hand on anything you needed.

Pretty much everything the guys have said here is golden.

If I did it over again...3.4, downpipe, ported mani's, 1.9s and a nice tune.

Lmao. I'm not trying to be a pain in the as s about the wires. I'm just saying zzp uses black rubber ends on those wires. Which is important cause those wires tend to be crap because of those ends not gripping onto the plug ends causing misfires

besides being a straight-up set of msd wires (which they could be because it's a lot more common in parts store) they could also be PRJ wires. Those are nice because they use the Taylor wires and msd ends and he doesnt make these anymore. Those would be the hardest to obtain unless you frequent the wbody sites and placed an order before he stopped selling them. I run those ones now.

Picked up the car today. I wore my forum T-shirt and seller said he was also a member here, also said the car was advertised here on the for sale forum for a while...maybe one of you guys will remember the post and know what car I'm talking about? Waterbury CT was where it was located.

No ZZP log manifold and he recommended that I install one, that's the last piece of the mod sequence that is missing. Will order one and install. Thanks to all for the good advice!

i can't help but wonder why he never put one on. if he was a member here then he should have known he was flirting for a potential disaster with that setup. unless off course he determined he was running KR free . but anywho burbman , 3.8 pulley or 3.4 it doesn't matter , that stock front mani and the stock downpipe handicap these cars.

He said he scanned it and only saw KR at the very top end of 2nd gear at WOT. I asked him why he never installed the log and i got the feeling he just didnt want to deal with the rusty manifold bolts, and general PITA of exhaust work. I ordered the log last night and will see if my local mechanic will install. My tools are still in storage from the move back to LI.

Also found out i front rotors off of a Camaro....

oh sweet. you got the F body upgrade. better calipers and bigger rotors. just make sure you buy the right brake pads when it comes time.
the front mani's not a tough one. my 2000 is as rusty as they come underneath and i had no problems with the bolts. hit em with pb blast a few times a few days before i got the plog and they all came right off. even the cross over bolts. took maybe 45 minutes.

i don't think you can use the bigger F body rotors with the GP calipers. F body calipers are the aluminum dual pistons. you can use some years bigger monte carlo rotors with the GP calipers but you still have to change the brackets.

What did he do?? Run 04 calipers and brackets to jump up to almost 12in rotors? Sounds like a hack. Plus his excuse for not doing a plog is crap. The manifold bolts aren't the issue. You have more headaches with downpipe bolts.
