I have a 2003 Grand Prix Gt silver with 78,500 miles on it. I'd rather have a 06/07 gp gt, but I'm not sure how much value I would get out of my car. The body is extremely clean, and is mechanically all stock. It has a new pioneer radio, hid headlights, black air dam, and new grills. The problem I have (where I need your help) is that it has an oil leak. I was told it was the rear main seal and the oil pan gasket. The thing is, I only need to change the oil or top off the oil every 4 months. So for those who change their oil every 3 months, they wouldn't even realize the leak. At the end of the day, it still has a leak, even if it's a minor one. What does this do to the value of the car? I haven't found the 06/07 gp that I want, so I'm not motivated to sell, but it would be great to know what I could get for my car for when I do find the next gp I want. The car has also been in the same family since day 1. For a n/a grand prix, I think it's pretty rare to find a car in this kind of shape and miles (especially with it being through 12 harsh winters), but people would rather have a gtp than a gt (like me lol).

I'd tell you since doing the rear main basically involves ripping the motor out, because if someone tells you they'd want to do it in the car, they're crazy.

And I'd re-gasket the entire thing while it's out. SOOOO, I'd probably give you (if the car was mint)...maybe $3k? Mileage helps quite a bit, but I still have to put my time and work into it...which is worth quite a bit.

According my bank (where I work) we'd value it at $3,650.00. But that's mint condition.

Yeah. It is VERY labor extensive to fix, but since it doesn't necessarily need to get fixed I wasn't sure if it affects the value of the car so severely. If I had to top off the oil every week, then that is something that needs to get fixed before selling the car or before the buyer starts driving the car daily like I do. If the leak was taken care of then it would have no leaks, great paint, no rust, low mileage, which would be worth a lot more than $3k. But from what you're saying, whether the leak is minor or bad, it's still gonna take a big hit on the selling price. For $3K, I'd rather keep the car and beat on it in the winter since nothing is different than if it didn't have a leak. Have some cardboard under it in the garage, top the oil/change it every 4 months and that's it. And of course wash it extensively still haha

Haha funny. It has a couple rock chips on the hood (like every old car does) and the leak. You can't see the leak though on the car unless you look at the underbody of it. If it didn't have the chips on the hood it would be mint inside and out for looks wise.

I've asked a dealership what they would give me for my car and I mentioned the leak. They said $3K if the rest of the car was in great shape. I just find it odd that the dealership would give me the same amount for my car as if I sold it privately. Usually dealerships would give you little to nothing. And I did KBB and for good condition it was $3800 to a private seller. KBB can't factor in everything though, it's just a good starting place. I wasn't expecting to get $5K for it, but I was thinking $3500-$4000 since the leak isn't bad. I'm just one opinion though lol, that's why I asked you guys.

Wait until they sell you the replacement; take your lube with you. LOL

Around here, you have what I have, a $2-3000 car at best. I paid $2500 for my car 4 years ago, made it look cool and fun, and will be lucky to get that $2500. I don't plan on getting rid of her, but if I did, I'd put her back to stock, look for a "Push-Pull-Drag" sale and trader her in. Best bang for he buck right there.

    ^ This.

Buddy at work just got rid of his 2014 Ram 1500. He was asking $42K, would take $40K. Dealership offered him $41K on the phone, but then when he showed up to make the deal, then back-peddled and told him there was no way they would have made that offer.

Yea, a stealership will give you $3K for it, but then again you'll be paying retail (or damn close to it) for the one you want to buy. Like Bronco Boy basically said, bend over and grab your ankles! LOL

UGH, don't even get me started on STEALerships.............
