i agree not to change the fluid i have had 2 trans start to slip and bang from a stop and hardshift, both times i did a fluid and filter change and it made it much worse.
I see. So did you have to end up replacing the transmission or sell the car? That's exactly why I'm not changing the fluid or filter. The fix fluid is perfectly fine for me.
I have a trans sitting in my shed with only 3750 miles on it. Gonna throw in a transgo shift kit and the TSB GM round magnets in before it goes in the car.
if your trans has never been Serviced and it had over 100 000 miles and has issues i wouldnt. If it doesn't have issues then id say yes and throw a transgo shift kit in also.
If it's low miles id change it often.
Just my opinion though im no expert.

I picked up a 97 GTP with a bad trans in it with 154k miles on it. I did a filter and fluid change on it. 4th gear went out at 181k miles.
Jesus. What is wrong with people these days. There is no sound logic in leaving fluid that you KNOW is bad. Seriously, did retard school get out for summer early or something. Think before you type. "I know it's bad but I'm going to leave it for 3-4 years." Come on. Use your noodle. Slipping accelerates transmission failure. the slipping is the frictions not grabbing, which rubs more and more and more friction material off into the fluid. If you wanted a temporary fix you should have put in a Transgo shift kit and got a tune to increase the line pressure. That would make the transmission bite the frictions harder, which MIGHT make the slipping stop. Sounds like you are too far gone though, so I'm just wasting my time typing...since you are ignoring people that are veterans of this platform who know what they are talking about more than I do.
Not saying your wrong, cause everything you said makes sense, but i've heard from others on the forum that after a while, all that clutch material in the old fluid is the only thing keeping it going.
So no complete flush, but maybe a pan drop and filter and kit would be a plan. Either way if your trans is slipping now, the only true fix is a new or rebuilt trans.
