So I wanna do a top swap on my 03 grand prix gt. Instead of buying a whole kit for $1300, could I just buy a junky second grand prix gtp for $700 and take the supercharger and all other needed parts from there and put it right into my 03 gt? Or would that be a bad idea considering that junk car would have like 200K miles on it? I want to keep driving my 03 for MANY years to come and don't wanna have to spend any more money than I have to. It currently has 76K miles on it. Short term I'm thinking buy the junk second car, but long term, I don't know. Your thoughts?

Well, if you get that $700 car and use the parts, you still need coolant, headgaskets, new head bolts, coolant elbows, wideband 02 sensor, a way to scan for KR, and a custom tune. The tune alone could run you 2-$300. Add in the other parts and you are right back to 1300 real quick. The old addage of Fast, Cheap Reliable- Pick 2 applies here.

For $700+ consider finding a GTP/GS/SS that was wrecked and just do a full motor and trans swap. Much less tearing apart involved plus that way you get the HD trans, taller gears, and better diff.

    If it's an 03 gt isn't it a 2.93 geared trans? I thought only the 97 gt's with the 4t60 and the comp g's were 3.29's

also if you have an 03 the trans and pcm are diff then other years. so you would need run 03 gtp/gt code. unless you swapped everything... topswap will be in the 1000-1300 area. if you topswap i recommend doing headers while in there. much easier when the rear head is off the engine. plus topswaps need the extra flow to handle the stock pulley with high compression. you may even consider rockers or another mod.
