ok so i did it.
so i bought the tstat and gasket.
i removed the engine mount (it was hard for me to get to housing bolt)
opened the housing, some coolant spilled from the hose
i cleaned it good, then i took off the tstat and gasket and put the new one.
it seems like the new one fit just to sit on it and not squeezed like the other one.
then i put everything back
installed the mount back (it was so hard. the bolt that connect to the body keep turning with no end, i hope its ok)
then i turned the car on
waited for the car to be hot and bleeded the tstat.
i put some coolant. i hope it will be fine now.
thank you guys.
After changing the tstat. Still problem NOT solved.
Any idea? Takes 12 mins to 185
Yeah sounds like a bad heatercore
what do i need to do to fix it?
dammit, never-ending problems.
A new heater core
Welcome to owning a late modal car
i cant just flush it with a garden hose?
garden hose works. just pull the 2 hoses off the alt bracket. then put the hose to one hose. then back flush it the other way. do this till the water flows out nice and smooth. or comes out as fast as its going in at least.
When I started to read this thread I was hoping you solved a problem I've had since I bought my GP GT new in 99 that the dealer was never able to solve under warranty. It has always had the issue of slow warm up via the gauge display and providing heat. I never changed the t-stat because it maintains a constant coolant temp after it warms up.
If back flushing the core works, that is great because a heater core change out is a serious pita.... half the dash and the center console need to be removed to get to the the 2 piece air box. After you fight to get all that stuff out of the way, the core removal is cake, lol. Had to do my heater core last winter because it was leaking coolant badly onto the interior carpet.... but from my experience, that had nothing to do with excessively slow warm up time on the gauge. It did impact the ability to provide heat from the core and made a mess in both drivers/passengers side foot wells..
In my case flushing the heater core hoses prior to reconnecting showed they were clear and didn't change performance of the core because it was new but helped to insure I wasn't going to add garbage from the system to the new core to instantly plug it up. I still have the same problem with painfully slow warm up via the gauge display but I've learned to live with it. If you hit the jackpot of solving this mystery or should I say misery... I'd also like to put this one behind me.
Good luck.
