Darn 401 code again- had another vacuum T with a split in it. Yee-haw! Maybe thats where my fifth of an MPG went, time will tell.

Seen a base GP with a bench seat and column shift in the u-pull-it, didn't know grand prix's came that 'base' was defiantly an odd sight. Would have got a pic but my phone camera is ****ed.
last night and today i did a fill interior carpet clean of the car. Washed all my floor mats. washed all the carpet from the salt from winter. Cleaned dash and conditioned the seats. had geek squad install a bluetooth receiver for my radio.. thing works like an absolute charm! I love it. works super nice. would recommend! Oh... and changed the oiled a day or two ago... gets down to about 50% left and the low oil light comes on.. its time for an oil change. Next on the list is to do a coolant flush. I have the dex- orange **** still.. need to get to the green... might just wait till summer and put in new coolant elbows in right away too. is dex-orange or whatever really that bad? I mean i see some gunk in the res. tank but not terrible..
They say if you change regularly like what 50-80k or so its not too bad. Least thats what I'v heard.
id be surprised if it has been changed or flushed at all......![]()
I know mine wasn't then I mixed green with whatever red was left in my car when I did coolant elbows lol, surprised it hasn't sludged up or anything
Red? Interesting.. Dad is telling me to just start using "all-color coolant" which i might just start doing.. or is that still a big no no with using the **** orange?
Whatever came stock was what I mixed green with I'm pretty sure. I would just flush and use green. Then you don't have to worry about mixing lol.
Flush that rad. Garden hose in one end, open the petcock at the other, flush like hell. Turn the heater on and repeat, so you flush the heater core out too.
repeat with the engine block - pull the tstat, stick a garden hose in one end and point the other end down (preferably to a bucket is what I use) and flush like hell. A little sludge in the recovery tank could mean either nothing in the block or perhaps it's sludged like hell. No way to tell.
if it is gunked, use two bottles of Prestone flush + straight water for a few days, then repeat all the flushing described above.
or you'll be replacing the rad and heater core before long. Not to mention the LIM gasket which gets eaten by the dexcool.
I think the flush with the hose and let it drain and run it till it gets hot with the heat on will be fine... is pulling t-stat really that important?
Working with a hot engine is infinitely more irritating... Only thing holding the tstat housing in place is two 10mm bolts and can be pulled in five minutes... Since the tstat is so easy to remove on the 3800's it's worth not having to wait for the engine to heat up and cool down several times I think.
the 3400's on the Monte Carlo on the other hand... That, I let heat up and cool down. No way in hell my hand could fit back there and pull that sucker out.
@scmidy
You realize for a LS4 none of this procedures apply. No coolant elbows, tstat opening etc... To flush you'll need to splice a heater hose with Preston's flush fill kit. Then open the radiator drain plug and go from there. DO NOT MIX all color b.s and factory dex cool.just keep using dex cool till you do your flush.
Dexcool isn't all that bad as long as you keep up with your system..meaning you flush it every so often and make sure that air isn't introduced to the system. Shouldn't gunk up if you do these things. IMO it's worth just switching to another type I use green..even though I usually flush my system every spring I hated the gunk that Dexcool left behind.
l you need is a thermostat and water pump and only if you're having cooling issues..and the black heater hoses closest to the throttle body area are the ones I'm referring to. This will will flush from your core througg the block radiator and out the drain
So i'll need to cut it an then replace it basically? or what are you meaning by this flushing kit? you have a link?
