I couldn't find an official write-up in the how-to section. Either there isn't one, or I don't know how to use the search.

just for you, copied form a post word for word, 3 or 4 times, copy pasted this.

flushing coolant is easy. take the t stat out, put the housing back on, leave the hose on the t stat housing, now take it off the upper rad, push it down to the ground.

open the rad, put a hose in the rad, turn it on, then fire up the engine, all the coolant will pump out the upper hose to a bucket or the ground, as your filling the rad with fresh water, run it like this for a few minutes, usually till clear water comes out. then take the hose out, turn it off, then run the car till no more coolant comes out the upper hose, then turn the car off.

put a new t stat back in hook up the hose to the rad, then dump 1 gallon of straight antifreeze in the rad, not the 50/50 crap. start the car, fill the rad with the hose.

let the car idle, rad cap open till the fans come on, then open the bleeder screw on the t stat housing till a stream of coolant comes out. then shut it. top off the rad if need be, cap it, your done.

waiting for the fans to come on lets you know the engine is hot enough for the t stat to open, some times you will see the rad level drop as well. that would be the time to bleed the air as well. because it opened and took coolant from the rad to fill the engine with more coolant.

u used all makes all models coolant which iirc is the same thing as Dex. I may be wrong but I think if you're switching from Dex you wanna typically go with green.

It's not the same thing as dex because if you add green coolant to universal, it doesn't clump or matter at all. If you add green coolant to dex it will clump. It might be made of similar materials that's in dex-cool, if that's what you mean.

I think the universal I bought is green in color, I'm finishing up the flushing process tomorrow

    Looks like kool-aid. Dex-coolaid, yum.
Good job, you put yellow dyed dexcool back in.

Its the same formula without the GM badge on the bottle.

Not only did he put dex back in, he is hurting his own fuel mileage and causing more carbon build up on valves with a 180* thermostat.

Most people on these forums say it won't do anything anyway since my cooling fans aren't tuned for different temperatures. It's only for the summertime. On the topic of dex cool, you guys don't really mean to say that universal will clump or become acidic, right? I haven't added it to the system yet

Took the last 2 seats out if the car only to find that it's not prewired for heat. Sucks. But I can wire it up special then. No big deal just sucks.

It's still a waste, even for summertime. Run a 195* and be done with it.

    Guess that's what I'll do.

Also, I'll still use the 180°, it's already in the car. I do almost all city driving, and in 95° michigan summer temps, I'm sure it will be over 195. But if I notice it not getting near full temp enough I'll swap it out, I'll pay attention to the gauge.

well my car, which I have fresh gaskets and coolant and all that, runs a consistent and I mean consistent 185-192 on a 180 thermostat. keep in mind I'm tuned for it....or at least I'm supposed to be lol.
rather it's needed or not I still knock my ass off, might switch back to a 195 it just all depends on what mood I'm in. but for real life informational purposes, those are the temps you will see.
