And I've heard nothing but bad things about those dohc 3.4's. Hard to work on in general and issues with the timing belts
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
I haven't seen any issues with them other than a coolant leak under the rear cylinder head. Timing belts need to be changed on them every 40-60k IIRC. It's not a bad job...just people are either lazy or uneducated about it. It's actually a pretty easy belt to change too. That being said, I have a BRAND NEW fresh out of the crate 3.4 DOHC I'll sell you. LOL
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
Nah I'll stick with the ol reliable 3800 lol
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
Which is known for

VC gaskets that can cause fires
etc etc etc

Got some KR with the 3.0 on a hot day so I threw the 3.2 on until I can get another tune thrown on it. That blows.
The ignition cylinder has a weird habit of not turning back to the off position when the car's in park. It'll go back to the accessory position but not the off position. I wouldn't care, because the key can be pulled out from there. Trouble is, if you do that, you can start the car with no key. I live downtown. Not good. When that happens, the only way to get the ignition back to the off position is to use the little button inside the steering wheel. That's annoying.
Its probably broken wires in the switch thingy for the shifter position (honestly forgot the name). Mine does that sometimes so I jiggled the button and click it from different gears and it usually unlocks.

Yeah its a trade off. No timing belt issues which I hate replacing, but vc gaskets I'm fine with, luckily intake was done before, fpr, oil pressure switch, think that's it. Oh coolant elbows which is cheap and fairly quick
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
And..that's the funny thing. Our W bodies are easy to flip a chain onto. All the belted cars seem to have crap in front of the cover.
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
Yeah the frame lol. Motor mounts, ac lines, etc. I've never known the 3800 chain to be a maintenance item, they go to 300k and hold up. Some belts break at 80k. I've seen it on the Chrysler pt cruiser engines, 2.4 I think.
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
Junkyard trip tomorrow, gonna look for some Impala (06+) brakes or if I can't find those I'll get some F-Body brakes. Last I was there they had some F-body's so I can always get those. I'm also tossing around the idea of Grand Am rear brakes since they are lighter. Whatever brakes I end up with will be painted red so I figure why not swap out the rears. I dunno, we'll see. I also might pick up an aluminum rear bumper support, who knows. I'm like a kid in a candy store there.
LTFTs are at -12.5% according to the wife, so I'll be checking fuel pressure at some point this weekend.
What did you do to your Car today?
Yuck...
Red calipers
How about keeping it simple and painting them black
No need to advertise

I tried black and I don't like it all that much. I might try silver or something different.
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
Having my 44# injectors and Overkill tune shipped to me this week.
Re: What did you do to your Car today?
Put the new gas cap on. AVG MPG's rocketed from 17 to 19.
Doing NGK Tr6IX plugs as soon as the engine cools down. Wonder how much btr the MPG's can get.

I love my 3.4l dohc in my vert. It has great top end power.
My timing belt was actually pretty easy to replace. It had the original one up to 100k miles.
The upper and lower intakes go bad but its pretty easy to replace. Other than that its a great engine. The oil pump drive leaks in all most all of them. I have found a way to fix that.

The OEM gas cap was loose. It didn't lock on very well or get a tight seal. In fact it was so very loose, that when I grabbed it to switch it out for the new cap, it fell off. Kinda surprised I never got any CEL codes for the issue.
