Is the gas tank sending unit part of the fuel pump on a 2002 GP? The car has a 3.8 L engine.

If so, do you have to replace the entire thing (fuel pump & sending unit) to fix a gas gauge not reading correctly.

I am being told the sending unit is bad, but the entire unit (pump and sending unit) have to be replaced as one unit, is this correct?

Nah. You can replace just the level sensor. The clips and wire connections can be a little fiddly, but it's very doable. Some guys will say to just replace the pump since you're right there, but considering these cars have an access hole, I'd roll the dice. It's not like you have to drop the tank.
