    The charging system is literately monitored 24/7. If it detects something like an increase in the batteries internal resistance (which can change in extreme temps) it will set the DIC error. You will also notice that it will keep the charging level above 15V for longer than when it's warmer.

    I just got rid of an '06 Base model that had intermittent charging system failure problems earlier this year. One time while driving at 100km/h up a hill, all of the electrical shut off for a split second, long enough to reset the in-dash calendar to January 1st, spooked the hell out of me. But, as quick as everything shut off, it came back on again and I only had minor headlight dimming issues for the rest of the night. I took it into the shop and they were just scratching their heads. But it's good to know I wasn't the only one! I thought I was crazy!

    Now I have an 07 GT... Fingers crossed it doesn't do the same.
