What is this incessant noise. Diagnose me!
|
I'd just assume that when the belt is off the noise will be gone.
So I'd start with a new belt first, then go from there.
If the new belt does not fix the issue, then stat looking at a pulley issue. I don't see this problem being related to the supercharger itself because you wet the belt and noise went away.
thats nothing to do with the sc. your lubing the belt.
take the sc belt off, then spin the idler's and tensioner pulleys by hand, your looking for one thats not smooth spinning. if those are ok, then take the other belt off and do the same.
if let go the pulley will explode, the belt will break and most of the time take something else with it.
those pulleys are 20 bucks brand new.
The only reason i don't think it's a belt is because the lubrication i'm using is belt dressing.. I feel like that would take away squeaks to do with the belt
apparently i posted this in the for sale thread, my bad
Belt lube never worked for me... Ended up just forking over the $15 and just getting a new belt.
I agree with the other guys above.. Start with the belt then go from there.
Alright hopefully it's just that. Thanks for the quick responses guys, appreciate it.
i had a bird chirping under the hood too. took the sc belt off and the tensioner pulley would barely spin. new pulley, no more chirp.
when you spray a belt the way you did, your wetting both sides of the belt, so any pulley that was bad the belt is now sliding over it due to loss of friction.
it did get way louder initially when i put the dressing on as well
Take a peice of sand paper and place it against the belt under while its running and it should go away if its the belt, just dont take your hand off or just replace it.
i say new belt then new tensioner pully/ assembly if continues. i had the same sound in my 04 n/a had to replace the tensioner assembly cause i stripped it and after that had no isues ever agian.
sand paper worked!
That means it's the belt then, you took off a little surface layer of dry rotted rubber.
