SKF and Timken are made in the USA. I personally don't seen the need to spend an extra $80 on SKF bearings but you could. As far as Timken going down hill I don't think that is true other than just about every company has had cut backs due the economy. If you look around online you will see almost all good reviews about Timken. I have had them on 4 cars each still running them for 40k+ miles.
Rockauto has the best prices right now from what I have seen and NAPA sells SKF which Rockauto has.

Here's a bad review...they suck. Went through three in less then 5k miles. Put napa on and its still fine 20k miles later.

Here is a bad review for Timkins, it's not unusual for a transaction to go like this when I am stuck working at a store at the front counter.
Me:"What do you need?"
Them: a wheel bearing for such and such
Me: we have cheap chinese timkin or SKF, I recomend the SKF.
Them: No chinese is ok for me.
Me: ok it'll be xx.xx see you in a few weeks.
2-3 months later:
Them: you sold me junk! i want to return it!
Me: Welcome back get a SKF this time.
Them: Timkin is made in the USA and it's cheaper I'll get that.
Me: Ok sir. that'll be xxx.xx.
2-3 Months later.
Them:Is that all you do is sell junk here?
Me: No, if you bought what what I recomended the first time you woulden't have to have done the job twice so far before getting it right.

1) Okay, this thread seemed very active and well knowledgeable. I had my car sent to a shop for the CV Axle to be replaced (didnt have time between work and school) and turned out spending way more because my engine mount and bracket were shot, hadn't been informed about the issue at purchase. *never going to that dealer again* So I spent $700 on what was supposed to be a $150 job. They suggested that I replace the Hub as well. So I just did my own research and Pepboys has SKF Hubs for $139.99 and my father is Ex-Military, so I get 10% off. Also I heard that you guys suggested the Moogs at Advance Auto. So just curious between the two. Kinda leaning towards Addzradd's arguement, the SKF is made in America and has a three year warranty. (Although I know Timken is too)
2) My ABS speed sensor harness is ripped as well. I need a new one and was curious at the recommended brand for that. All I found is Dorman, and BWD Automotive. Dorman is between $34-40 and BWD is $127. Which one is better? Also noticed only one side has the disconnect. Am I going to have to do some cutting and attaching to the original wire?
Sorry for the long post, just have a lot of questions, and no answers, time or, money. haha

I haven't had any experience with ABS sensor harnesses, but with wiring and harnesses and such usually dormans are just fine, but you will most likely be splicing wiring on the harness side. The other place you can look is in rock auto's clearance section they sometimes have randon harnesses and electical stuff for our cars for a few bucks.
Also, as a totally seperate idea I was researching bearing failures on my Aunt's PT loser and came across this thread.

And wondered maybe if it has a little something to do with our platforms wheel failures.
Basucally the jist of everything I read went something like this: If a car has a poor ground somewhere a really good connection can be made through the strut tower to the bearing to the cv to the engine/trans. this causes arcing and pitting on PT's at least and could possibly be a reason on our cars.
But hey what do I know I just thought it was interesting.

I heard of this before but we don't have a problem with original bearings failing early. We and every other platform have a problem with cheaply made aftermarket Chinese parts failing. Apparently alloy, hardness and tolerance all effect how long a bearing will last!

Wbodys and bad wheel bearings are best friends...as are every gm vehicle with this bearing design...

Hey, just got SKFs and they are made in Korea now. Anyhow, got one on, it slid right off the splines. The other is not coming off. Wacked the shaft end with mini sledge still no go. Ready to take it to my mechanic unless someone has a suggestion.
