I have serched and found nothing on a whirring sound comeing from the pass side front wheel well, I make a hard left turn and it whirs but dosent make a sound when I do hard right hand turns. I was thinking tire noise, I have 35 psi in the tire theres also a vibration during the left hand turn so Im leaning towards a hub or bearings. How do I know there bad. and would something like this turn my traction light on in reverse. Its a gp/gt 97 with 122k and the tires are a year old. I did replace the front brakes and rotors about a month and a half ago but this problem has happened in the past week or so, Im going to do a tire rotation this weekend to see if it is just tire noise if not, anyone have any sugestions?

People always forget the CV joint. You can probably add yourself to the list. Unless you’re not telling us something, like “oops btw I hit a huge rock!”.

IMO replace your passenger side half shaft

I 99% sure it is a wheel bearing. I would start there. When you turn left it puts more pressure on it cause more noise. Right turn takes weight off of it. Jack up the car and see if the tire feels loose. Like it moves side to side up down with out the strut moving.

The hub is easy. There is a write up somewhere for it. All you do is take off the tire then loosen the 35mm nut on the axle, then remove brake caliper and caliper bracket, then take the rotor off. You will probably need to hit it with the BFH. Then loosen the three bolts going into the back of the hub. If the axle is froze in the hub thread the nut back on a few threads and shock it loose with the BFH. Disconnect the abs harness and take the hub off. INstall is in the reverse order. I can get the torque spec if you want.

Id like that very mutch with the torque spec, I have to go buy a torque wrench anywase. Im still gonna rotate the tires for giggle sticks but I dont think thats the problem. My gut tells me hub. does a hub come with bearings or is there a whole parts list of things I have to buy?

Inner Joint on the shaft. I'll bet you a dollar. The outer ones are easy to tell, cause they click. Inners don't click, they thunk and whirr... and snap

did the tire rotation still whirrs, I have pics of everything Ill post as soon as I figure out how.lol but cv boots look like new the wheel has no up down side to side motion. What are the chances of this siezing up while driveing? I wish I knew someone close to me that knew these sounds and could pin point this. I dont want to tear into this and find out its nothing ya know.but we will see. the tread was pretty woren on the front so I put those in the back and criss crossed the rears to the front, typical tire rotation.

you would probably get a virbration with a bad cv shaft under accel. The axle nut is 130 ftlbs. Buy a name band torque wrench. Like craftsman.

LOL at everyone that posted in this thread. If I were the OP I'd be wondering why no one gave me simple diagnostic tests to check which component you are all promising are bad.

Jack the car and support by frame or drip edge, not by suspension components. Have someone do the tests while you watch the suspension. Excess movement in the tests help to indicate the problem.

Balljoint: With hands at 12 and 6 on the tire wiggle. Carefully use a prybar if the movement is slight, you are unsure and need more leverage.

Tie rod: With hands at 3 and 9 on the tire wiggle.

If both 12/6 and 9/3 wiggle, there is a good chance it is a wheel bearing.

Noise in one direction of a turn and not the other is another good symptom of a wheel bearing.

Axle: Usually a clicking sound when locking the wheels to one side. Frequently you will notice a lot of grease slung around the suspension from a torn CV boot.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Good post.

And I agree with probably a wheel bearing.

The hub and bearing all come in one assembly. $100 at autozone gets you the timken which is made in USA. The alternative is Chinese. You can rent the rest of the tools from autozone that you may need, including the 35mm socket. I did mine last week and the hardest part was getting the bearing to break free.

My car developed a similar noise this week, and then last night when I was making my 2 hour drive from where I am currently working during the week to go back home, it was horrible sounding. I knew that I needed to look at it.

Mine was making the noise when going more straight than any turn.

Well, I jacked up the front end and did the "tests", and I just randomly picked the front passenger side, and the whole tire wiggled in every direction. It was so much that I thought that the lug nuts or something MUST be loose.

I checked the driver side and everything seemed good.

So back to the passenger side. Like I said, I thought that the lug nuts were loose or something, but they were very tight.

I checked the large nut that holds the wheel bearing on, and it was tight too.

I checked the 3 bolts that get removed to put the bearing on, and they were tight.

Bad bearing I would think at this point since everything else looks good. Interesting side note, I just put this bearing on just less than 4 months ago. Got it from ZZP so it has a 1 year warranty, but of course, there is nobody there to answer their phones on weekends. Hopefully they can ship me a new one ASAP so that I only have to make 1 more 2 hour (all highway) drive this week before I have it fixed.
