so a few days ago i had a hint of smoke coming from the trunk and the subs started to act weird. Every ten seconds the left sub would make a loud thump(as in it was making lots of bass) even with the volume completely down. That was about 3 weeks ago and never used it since. Now today i took the seats out and took out the sub making the noise all of the solders and connections looked good and couldn't see anything wrong with it. Then turned it back on and used just the right sub and it worked fine. I then took that one out and put the left one in where the right one. The sub worked but the amp has two lights a green and red. The green is always on assuming to tell if it has power or is on. The red every time it comes on sounds like a breaker is popping and the sub gets noticeably quieter. i then put both back in normal places. Now the left sub does not work at all and after some time of the breaker popping the right sub works fine and the breaker doesn't pop but the left sub does not work at all. Should have done this earlier but then hooked up a multi meter and checked the power. The left amp the one that doesn't work at all only receives less than half the voltage. What is causing this is it the amp or the sub and how should i further diagnose them. all wires and connections are tight and properly connected.

Are you ran into your fuse box at all or directly to the battery? I had a problem that I just got fixed today after sitting in the stereo shop for close to 15 hours over 2 days. My rpm, fuel, and temp Guage would not work, it also said my traction control was off. Don't know if you are having the same type of situation but I found is common ONLY with grand prix. Don't know if it helps just figured I would let you know.

Check your grounds. If you have a faulty ground it will act as another load and it will take battery voltage from the amp.

    Are you using a capacitor?

well, what ohm load you have on either amp? If a lead is damaged on the speaker it will throw off the load, or voice coil is burning up. I would pull the subs and check the leads as well as ohm them out and see if there all matching. If that not an issue, do you have a voltmeter? Massive voltage drop could be happening which would explain the magic smoke you seen. An amp will run cooler and not blow the fets if it gets what it needs, I have a 2500rms amp on 1 ohm load, never gets warm. but i dont have voltage issue.
What is your main run of power wire? Where you got your grounds?

alright im absolutely retarded when it comes to amps and subs came with the car i can figure most things out and yes i have a volt meter i will pull them out and test them tomorrow. is the fed the breaker that i kept hearing pop.? also what is the main run of power wire like the size and stuff? and idk what wire is the grounds i will post a pic of the amp and maybe you can tell me which one the ground is. also i did check the leads assuming that is where they connected and they were still in perfect condition(ie not burnt or loose or anything.)

**** underneath where the pic cut off is there is a little blue wire that says rem the other wires down is the bridge.
And to the question above it does get power off the fuse box thats also where my HIDs are connected. Could this be having affects on it? also a few months earlier i had BAD interference.

yes main power wire size, and the fets are the part of the amp that relieves heat, the pop could be a number of things. What amp and rms you running, the amp, give me more info. and you go the big three?

Thts cool I'm at home llol just make a list of what ya have. If you can figure out voltage drop or not that will help alot too.

power output4 ohms 2x300 2 ohms 2x500 i have 4 and 8 gauge cables and i do not have a capacitor and i just measured the voltage drop and one side is 2.2 one is 3.3 also i found my ground what should i check about it. it isn't corroded or loose. i cant tell if i run big 3 two run to a tapped hole in the frame behind the seat just under the carpet which i believe are 8 gauge and then a 4 gauge i believe runs from battery or fuse box then splits into two to go into the amp

what ohm are you running? the 2 or 4? lower you go more strain on the electrical, where do you have 4awg and 8 awg? all power wire should be the same. where did you measure to get your numbers? positve and negative post on the power and ground? Dont get a cap there worthless and will harm more than anything. i would tell you to add a batt but im worried about all this nonsense you have going on, can i get a pic of the full install? if i can see i can better assist you. I would highly reccomend a new amp kit if your not sure how to do them yourself, smaller wire has high resistance. THats bad mhmkay lol.

For amp kit, think bigger Belva Bangin' Bass BAK02 0/1 Gauge Amp Wire Kit w/ 2-Ch RCA Cable

this is mine kinda give an idea of the engine bay area

You cant see the enigine ground in any pics, but find a bolt and secure it well.

here is my wiring 4 gauge coming from the 8 gauge.
here through firewall and back this is only cable other then audio cables which is the 4 gauge that splits to 8
also wanted to add that even with subs unplugged the amp still pops and stuff
