OK so here is the deal....I have just gone through my 5th pair of different subs on this amp and i dont get it. First pair were some old ****y MTX Roadthunders dual 4ohms. second pair were Rockford R1's dual 2ohms, third and fourth pair were Alpine sws-1223d dual 2 ohms, fifth pair were rockford P1's single 4ohms. all subs were wired to 2 ohms. the amp is a Alpine MRD-m605 its stable to 2ohms. HU is a Sony XNV-660bt 4v preouts. Amp gains set to match the preouts and ALL subs properly broken in. ALL subs got extremely hot to the touch before blowing or part ways blowing. i know that the subs VC are all thermaled but i dont get why. No bass boost on and the amp isnt clipping....could it be just a bad amp? BTW amp is rated at 600rms at 2ohms

I know you say the amp is not clipping, but was the output checked with an oscilloscope or DMM? Also, the only accurate way to check for clipping is with the system loaded from my understanding...in other words with the speakers hooked up. Not calling into question your audio abilities, just wanted to make sure everything was out in the open for diagnosis.

Also, not sure if Alpine sends a "birth certificate" of real world tested output or not, but maybe you have a freak amp putting out way more than spec'ed.

Are you using the same enclosure for all of the subs? And what is your low pass set at?

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

as far as audio knowledge goes im no I800COLLECT but i know the basics and then some. the amp was bought second hand and know i havent had it tested at all i just didnt think it could be the amp back then but im definitly thinking it is. Also when i say my subs get hot i mean even at the lowest of volumes. And know i have changed the enclosure (the SWS were in a smaller one then all the rest)

ok to clarify a dmm wont tell if your clipping , jus becasue the output is correct dont mean anything, you have to o scope it to see that. i would look at turning bass down, if you have a knob leaving it down. sub enclosure will mess with sound but not heat anything up. have you check for voltages at battery then amp and check for difference? check grounds, bad grounds can cause a amp to struggle for power and that will create alot of heat.

P1's are garbage by the way. i would go with a bigger badder sub or something with more lineear travel

Ok just to CLARIFY the reason i mentioned the DMM wasnt to see if the amp was clipping it was to say that there are fluctuations in the resistance at the amp terminals. maybe the amp was damaged when i got it. and i do not own nor do i know someone that has an o-scope. as for the subwoofer it self im not trying to go louder or beat harder. i like the p1's for their SQ and their price

well you pay for what you get, i owned 3 sets of p1's in little over 2 week span, each one seperate the coil from the cone. so i took em back got my money. but like i said did you check the power draw and grounds? you can also do a big "3" upgrade to help or at least do the ground part to help.
