Thread: WTF is going on !?

So this goes with my other post, that I have listed to have deleted by a moderate as this seems to be a dead on list of whats going on. Today I replaced my stock radio with a Kenwood KDC 200 cd player . All I did was buy the cd player, the install kit , and the wiring harness from walmart since my stock cd player was annoying me as only half the lights would illuminate and I honestly wanted something with either USB/AUX or both which this deck has. So I have been having one issue that really annoys me with this car, every time i open the door if a song is playing you will hear the normal door chime but if the radio is on it will shut off than turn back on . I also noticed that the DIC and other lights flicker as if it's loosing all electrical power, but the rpms don't drop at all . Since owning it, the only thing I have done was one part of the BIG 3 and that was only adding the wire from the alternator to the fuse block on the passenger side of the vehicle, which I purchased from ZZP back in the day. I had it in my Buick Regal, and never had any issues with it what so ever both with GM keyless entry from the factory, and a aftermarket cd player . Well just a minute ago I noticed that the cd player completely shuts down as if the battery was disconnected, and restarts in 'DEMO' mode so any and all settings I had are now gone. Just after I realized that I closed the door and went to hit the key fob to lock , and now my key less doesn't work nor is the security light blinking .

Please can someone shine some light on this, my only idea is the stock cd player managed the key fob, and the wire I added is making those other issues happen, but again I had both a aftermarket cd player and that wire jumping from my alternator to my fuse block , while also having the GM stock key less entry on my 99 Buick Regal Gs and NEVER had an issue, so I truthfully think there is another problem , so any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated .

First and most obvious thing to do is check over all of your wiring. ESPECIALLY THE GROUND. Make sure it is a solid metal on metal contact and make sure all of your wires are have a tight solid connection and are connected to the correct wire. I can almost guarantee it is a ground issue though.

Where are all the grounds on our cars ? That will at least give me somewhere to start looking tomorrow morning .

All the wires from the stock harness were in tacked, the only wires i spliced were the wires to the radio harness and the harness I bought at walmart . There is another plug that I unhooked from the stock radio, and there wasn't anything to hook it up to with the new wiring harness, I looked again at walmart today and didn't find anything that looked like it wouljd plug into that plug, and the only other option they have is the Scosche door chime thing , but I still have chimes....

When I got out of the car today, just as I opened the doors, everything went into this weird cycle, the HUD starts clicking like it was restarting, the radio turned off, the door chimes were going but would stop and start again... I checked the battery for the remote and it's fine . Im at a total loss because I know there wasn't a single issue with my 99 regal gs , 97 bonneville, or either one of my Impala's (00,02).

So I took the face plate off the cd player and the keyless worked, so Im led to believe that part of my issue is with the deck, maybe some of the wires are touching ? Im going to pull the deck out and check all the wires and make sure they are all connected properly . But that still doesn't explain why I was getting the other issues with the flickering of the dic, lights, and hud when I open the doors as well as the chimes going on and off. I will check the battery cables, as well as that cable i put on the alternator, maybe even just pull it off all together and see if that corrects the problem .

Pulled the deck out and removed the wiring harness, went through the wires that could cause this and can't figure it out. I have the red and yell wires together and black alone, and still no repair, the deck won't turn on when Ted and yellow aren't touching either which I don't believe it should to begin with ?

With the stock cd player it still would do the door chime and the song would cut in and out for that moment the door opens than it would return to playing . What I noticed and I don't believe I stated this before what all my info on my DIC gets reset each and every time I open the door and it acts up, and when the radio isn't connected the dic doesn't work at all ..

I'm really confused to say the least I don't believe the aftermarket radio is to blame I think there is another electrical issue that I'm not sure exactly what it could be.

Yeah, sound like you have the ignition on and constant power hot wired together......wire them properly and separate from each other and your problem will be solved. If there is no coordinating wire in your harness, then you should at the very least run a new wire to the fuse box so it has been run properly.

When they are wired color to color the deck doesn't even tun on ? That is where I was lost .

So I fixed it, connected the yellow to yellow , and red to red , it didn't turn on. Went under the hood and found the Radio fuse to be blown in the fuse block, replaced it and everything works now. I honestly didn't even think about checking those block for a fuse , but everything is working now, thanks for all the help everyone .
