So I was looking around on ebay and I found a couple DVD touch screen players that are double DIN for a pretty cheap price. For instance the BOSS BV9560B 7" TOUCHSCREEN 2 DIN CAR AUDIO CD/DVD/MP3/FM PLAYER & BLUETOOTH which is on ebay for around $180...(NEW BOSS BV9560B 7" TOUCHSCREEN 2 DIN CAR AUDIO CD/DVD/MP3/FM PLAYER & BLUETOOTH 791489110495 | eBay)

So I asked a shop how much they would charge me for the install and they said they could cut me a deal and do the installation free but charge me for the parts. He said it would be $200 in parts...

I asked him what the exact parts he needed and I looked them up online.

A dash kit (double din) - I found this for $12.00
    A antenna converter - I found for $10.00
A harness (he must mean wiring harness?) - I found for around $20

Now am I crazy here or is his price range insane? Am I missing a part or looking up the wrong parts?

EDIT: This is for me 2004 grand prix gtp btw...

    Thanks for your help!

When I did my radio install all the parts were pretty cheap. I think the only thing that was the most expensive was the harness to retain the door chimes which was like 20-30 bucks if I remember correctly. If I were you I would just do the install yourself because audio places like that charge enormous prices because they can.

I spent $134 total for my dash kit, antenna, and wiring harness. $104 for the wiring harness. But I didn't have to pay for my 6 1/2" or my 6 x 9 speakers, deck or install so I wasn't too hurt over it.

That $20 harness isn't going to keep your chimes or your steering wheel radio controls.

I had that same exact boss double din... the screen wouldnt budge so i couldnt play any cds or dvds. i bought it off craigslist so i knew the risk i was taking but, i would reccomend a non-boss cd player. theres other options out there, spend a little more and choose another option. literally the worst car audio purchase ive ever made.

^^^^^ This a million times over. Do not go cheap on a headunit. My single DIN, non 7" screen, non DVD, player cost more than that unit does. That should tell you something.

When I bought my first ever headunit I paid $50 and it lasted 6 months. I paid $180 or something for my replacement and it lasted 7 years. I paid $200 or so for my latest and it still was perfect when I pulled it from my Stealth. I only pulled it because the car is parked for awhile. A 7" screen DVD unit like you want will be around $500 for a quality unit. If you only want to spend around $180 get an Alpine single DIN.

Yeah i will just save up for it...i found the reason was because of the gmod05 chime/onstar is around 100 and the wheel control adapter is 50... and then add everything else in and its arround 180 plus labor...

but thanks...i will most likely save up and buy brand name!

I ordered my head unit from SonicElectronix.com..bought the head unit for $100 and got the harness, antenna adapter, and mounting kit free. And to be honest, the install really isn't that hard. Basic knowledge of your setup behind the DIC is really all you need to mount a new head unit. A pal and I did mine in < 1 hour.

Just find a stock nav unit and use a lockpick on it. The same or if not better than a head unit.

Stock Nav units go for $500-$600. You can buy an awesome aftermarket unit for that price.

Problem with going to audio shops with equipment they dont sell it most of the time they jack the price up. You are better off most of the time saving the money an using it on a better deck. I have a clarion vz401 and I love it. Was well worth spending the little bit of extra money. It's pretty well bullet proof as its been in my car with 2 18s walled off on 7400 watts. 159.5db an it still works like a champ.
