Thread: Need Help with amp/subs

First off the amp is a kicker kx800.2 2 channel Kicker KX800.2 200W x 2 Car Amplifier - Hands-on Research at Crutchfield.com

subs 10" coustic Coustic CF1044 10" Dual 4 ohms Subwoofer - Sonic Electronix

So here is the issue, at first i had them hooked up at 4 ohm to 4 ohm bridged and had the freq db and gain all set at 3/4 and i was smelling a buring smell so i figured maby my wiring or i was pushing the subs to hard. Well i noticed when i took the power cable fuse out it was burning so i tried hooking it up as 2ohm to 4 ohm and i read that turning the gain up and the db down was better so i did but now my lights are kind of flickering and the amp is shutting off for a second then turning back on it seemed alot louder like this and i dont smell that burning anymore either
im thinking maby it is my wiring to, i got that 1200 watt kit from walmart with i think a 4 gauge wire and it comes with a 80 amp fuse for it
also i was wondering what should my freq be at if the amp is 50-200 and my subs are 36-150, if there are 2 subs should i just max it on the amp?

If your amp is shutting down, its probably drawing too much current. Or its overheating. It sounds like you're pulling too much current through the wire and its popping your fuse. Most 4 gauge wires can handle up to a 125A fuse . (Depends on how well the wire is built) If your fuse is burning and not blowing, you should look into getting a better fuse and holder. Like an ANL fuse and holder. For the frequency on the amp, I'd set it for 80hz or below.

what do you meen the sub is only capable of being wired to 2 ohm or 8 ohm? no its not its capable of 2 ohm and 4 ohm and im running 2 of them btw

Edit: look at the post for the subs there is a wiring diagram for 2 subs with 2 channel amp those are the ones i tried

ok so i just realised my wire is only a 6 gauge so thats probly my issue so i guess my question now is what ohm should i wire it to be safe with a 6 gauge wire or does it not really matter and i should just keep it turned down

ya i rewired it to 4 ohms bridged and im going to go see if i can pick up some 2 gauge wire tomarrow, if i run it at 2 ohms with the new wire, and the subs being 800 max 400 rms each and the amp being 400 at 2 ohms would it be safe? or should i just keep it at 4 ohms which would be 200 going t each sub
