My car had the Bose speakers in it. It had a plastic holder for the speaker that was secured to the door panel. When I upgraded to my 6.5" Memphis M speakers. I took out the plastic hold that held the 5.5" speakers and dremelled it out so it would fit the 6.5" speakers. It took a few tries to get it to sit below the section of the door skin that was rubbing against the outter part of the woofer. But once I managed to get past that, they worked fine.

I am guessing GP's without the Bose speaker package do not have those nice plastic holders???

Aye correct, that is the part I had to work around. I cut deep into the plastic so that the speaker would sit lower in the cradle. And I then used my dremel tool to shave off the plastic of the door skin so it would not rest against the woofer. It worked out rather nicely. Granted I had white plastic stuff all over the place before it was all said done, but it doing that made it work

I cut the inside of the plastic housing out and made a 1" spacer for my kickers. The good thing about wood is you can sand it down at an angle for beter imaging. @ 1" I had no issues at all.
