The only time you have issues with localizing a sub would be due to vibrations or if the sub is playing what most consider to be mid-bass. The reason being is that wave lengths become short enough that your mind can figure out where it's coming from. But if a wavelength is 32 feet long...it doesn't matter where the sub is in the vehicle. My sub is LP'ed at 80hz using 12db slope and my bass is all up front, as if the mids are creating it. If there is some low notes in a song vibrations and pressure let me know that it's from my sub in the trunk; but only if I keep my rear seats down. Up, I don't have that problem at all.

So if you wanted to put a sub in your kick panel, floor board, whatever...yes you can get away with it. Something a lot of people do is put a tweet and mid-range on their dash, and use 6.5" to 8" subs in their doors. Now you can have stereo subs, not that it makes a big difference...unless those subs are crossed fairly high...i.e. 200hz or higher. At that point you're really getting into speaker selection dynamics.

    do it right.

3 way up front, sub in back.

But sub crossover should be around 50 Hz if you're doing second order.

What Matt said is correct 3-way + sub is your ultimate bliss. Or you can be like me and take two years to get the install where you want

Sadly. Doors on our vehicles are terrible for speakers. I would suggest doing some kind of kick panel for mid-bass. Anyways, here's my DIY thread on my vehicle...

    Make new door skins?

It'd take a long time but if done right it'd be awesome.

The rear doors? The only thing they would be good for is mid-bass. And you'd want that to be attenuated and time aligned. Mid-range and higher won't respond well at all in that location. Hrmm. Actually it'd help if you could impart your hopes and dreams on us? Because I could see a 5.1 plausible using the rear doors?

Put a sub up front if you have the space

    Mid-bass is ~75hz through 150hz

hehe. Audio is all about you anyways Can't tune it for the rest of the seats. Since I keep my sub playing lower...it's at 63hz and 12db slope now ...I can get away with the sub in my trunk and you can't tell it's there. But even if I want it higher...I have time alignment to help with miscues.

    It's all about you corey!!!

Your mid bass driver should play lower than 75....

Yes...a mid bass driver preferably plays lower.

This is where I got the definition...

It also arguably extends higher, roughly 250 Hz.

All of these definitions are very loose.

    Question.

K I don't know much, and I really don't want to rip anything apart, but if I were to want to replace the speakers in my car, is it pretty much a plug-n-play sort of thing? like if I get the right size, can I take the door panel off, pop out the old ones, pop out the new ones and be done with it? Or is it not as easy as that :P

Retail is $600 + shipping; typically $630 in the end. Currently they're doing a "group" buy for a reduced price. $559 shipped.
