After blowing out the factory speakers, I decided it was time to throw something new in. I picked up some Pioneer TS-A6963Rs and cable converters and figured I could put them in myself rather than paying Best Buy $70 to do it for me.

How do you get the factory speakers out? I'm at a complete loss as to how to do it. A simple Google search provided a ton of answers that involve nothing that seems to work short of sacrificing small children and animals to the great Pontiac gods.

I know this is probably much easier than I'm making it out to be, but some advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Excellent.

I'm looking at this thread for instructions on removing the seat: http://www.grandprixforums.net/f73/n...7-a-31659.html

yup u take off the bottom part of the seat 1st, pull nobs under neath the seat.. after that grab a rachet take out the seat belts, fold seats down 4 screws across the back support hold in the top part take them out.. then u should be able to get to the rear deck, u have to take this off and it gives u access to the rear speakers!!

do u have a deck in your car? if not then when u put in ur rears u will have to sets of wires going to each speaker.. 1 for the mid, 1 for the tweet. i dont think u can use both for 1 speaker, so if u want u can get a set of tweeters and wire them to the other set of wires ur not using!! here's the color codes for the monsoon system with amp in trunk, dont know about other systems, but this is what mine is in a 06 GT! THIS SHOULD HELP!!

Radio 12v orange + radio harness
Radio Ground black/white - radio harness
Radio Ignition (Class 2 Serial Data)
Radio Illumination gray (dimmer) + radio harness
Factory Amp Turn-on same as power antenna wire
Power Antenna purple + radio harness
LF Speaker +/- tan - gray +,- radio harness or amplifier
Notes: The amplifier is under the rear deck.
RF Speaker +/- lt. green - dk. green +,- radio harness or amplifier
LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow +,- radio harness or amplifier
    LR TWEETER +/- green/black - blue/white
RR Speaker +/- dk. blue - lt. blue +,- radio harness or amplifier
    RR TWEETER+/- green/black - blue/white

No, I haven't put a deck in because I haven't felt like messing with buying all of the extra stuff I would need (XM antenna, steering wheel button control adapter).

I just finished up installing the new speakers and I hope they last for a very long time... If I do any more upgrades, I've decided it would be much easier to just leave it to the professionals. I've decided I'll stick to what I'm good at- not working on cars.

Thanks for the help, becky and reallyfast1!

I have removed the back seat, yes it was a PITA. I bought a harness that connected to the old harness to let me run the front speakers. I have been unuccessful with finding the same thing for the rear 4 prong male hardshell. A little help here.

I followed the steps above but after removing the 4 bolts holding the back support in place, the back support is still attached at both sides by small pieces of seat back that stayed in place when dropping the seat backs..Is that back support piece suppose to come off? It is keeping me from getting the back deck off..
