Can the DIC be bench tested with just a 12VDC power supply or do I need the Body Control Module (BCM) and/or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to light up the LCD display?

Can the DIC be bench tested with just a 12VDC power supply or do I need the Body Control Module (BCM) and/or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to light up the LCD display?

I have seen eBay sellers show these DIC modules lit up on a bench (including LCD) so it must be possible. Does anyone know how to do this?
