They're both entry level subs. Can't comment either way since I don't deal with entry level brand name subs at all.

cheapest one you can find that puts out the same or slightly higher RMS wattage than the sub.

i have heard type x and type r, there is no comparison. you would be happy with a type r if all you want is bass. but for loud bass you might want to look for different options. at the moment all i have is an old school type r with reglued surround, and an exploding 250 watt amp witht the gains way high. it beats but not loud enough for me.

This is classic BS, Bahaha sry man your seal was blown out before u even had the sub in your car, it takes ALOT more then a little L7 to pop a seal,

Alpines are better than Kicker's, I'd start to lean away from Alpine amps though. Their quality has diminished since they started sleeping with Best Buy. Thankfully I have not seen lapse in quality of their subs.
It hasn't been said yet so I'll say it. The box is just as important as the sub. A crappy 8" funky pup in a propper box will beat an Alpine type R thats in a crappy box not built to spec. You need to match the box to the sub, thats one of the most important rules in audio.
If your looking for small area and a very high quality sub at a decent price, Check out Diamond Audio. Their D6's are very hard to beat.

I have had type r, type x, and type e's and have blown every single apline sub that I have "tryed" to use. allot of ppl like the type r's, but not me... Try craigslist, you can find good used deals on complete systems, just make sure you " try befor you buy ". and The wires you were talking about in your trunk, is there rca ends on a set? or did the last owned cut them off? You might need a new set of rca's...
98' GTP, 18's, BMR Adjustable Forward & Rear Lateral Arms, BMR Tubular Trailing Arms, Intense PCM, CAI, drilled rotors, 5% Tint all around
