    Ok,

I said I wanted flat. And to this day its what I aim for. In fact, even if I am going to use an EQ or tone controls to increase or decrease something I still try to start out with a flat system.

And i'm pretty certain I'm not retarded.

You don't actually tune to any specific listening curve? I've never actually knew anybody likes flat

if its loud enough, flat is the only way to go.

typically i've found flat suits all of my music at the levels i typically listen at. around 100-110db C weighted.

What annoys me with my grandprix is, In my truck everything sounded good. in the GP i'm constantly changing EQ settings to make it tolerable on different songs with the stock system.

that and alot of techno doesnt sound right to me through passive crossovers. Maybe its just me and i'm full of crap but, I swear alot of synth sounds sound far sharper through a direct coupled amp hooked directly to the speakers "no caps"

its also what made me stop collecting\using highend tube amps.
Even tho a speaker obviously cannot reproduce a square wave or sawtooth wave properly, having inductors and caps in the circuit seem to make things a lot worse.

IMO, theres nothing like a song like DJ Tiesto Parade Of The Athletes : Euphoria. On a quality direct coupled biamped or triamped system.

Or a more common person\group , Infected Mushroom.

I know I am resurrecting an thread but did you ever decide on some subs? Music is created by artist. Each and every one different. Most then have producers that mix and remaster and then mass reproduce and sale. We then all have individual tastes on what we THINK we like. On top of all of that we then factor in cost, availablity, install, and looks. I know to one who loves to build and uunderstand the sceince of all it is hard to understand but that is the way it is.
My two cents is 2 Pioneer champion spl 3004D4 12" Huge SPL with decent SQ.
Oh ya and this is a grand prix forum so most of us have GP's and we talk specifically about install and placement in a GP.

I know, that's what i'm scared of. I know when i had one it was tight, I doubt i will be able to build the box to slide in and out of the trunk. How are yours?

the last one is coming out tomorrow
i'm doing a new build with 2 12s firing forward

i had to cut the box in half to get them in and still didn't work correctly due to lack of airspace to go around the box

how many watts you wanting to go b/c a new alt might be a good investment if your going to be pushing allot

Sounds like it's going to be a fun project, i'm thinking 2000 watts so yes i'm going to need a big alt and some 0 gauge. I'm already droping to 12.2 when it hits so its on its way out already. My bud has 2 15" l7's laying around i might thow in, that should be killer until i decide if i want to get rid of the car.

Well then one it is, those things need big boxes anyways so i guess that might be a better choice.

Ported is necessary if you're dealing with two 15's.

If the box is the right size it should be pretty equal on all bass notes.

go with memphis mojos. i got 2 m3 12s and my car is to loud to sit in with the 1000 watt memphis amp and a ported box. you can get the m3s for about 550 to 600 new and they also have removable cones so if the warranty goes out you can just change the cone with 3 bolts or you can swap to any size you want at any time. dont look at rms on these subs..... memphis under rates everything and these subs will beat any w7 if your using decimal readers. trust me, their a must have, call and talk to a memphis dealer.

ID > retail for pricing most of the time. Even if you get dealer cost.

See old TC Sounds versus new TC Sounds.

Partsexpress is carrying their new stuff and its pretty damned pricey, but once they start carrying it in shops I'm sure people will get their prices back down a bit.

I am in the middle of a new build; 2 12's in a bandpass. Good for general listening and tuned with spiked curve for SPL. Best of both worlds, IMO.

If you're into "SQ" then having one note 2+ times louder than the rest isn't good.

    I concur

TOO much subs and not enough highs = crappy. My subs can be SO MUCH louder than the rest of the vehicle but it's too uneven for my taste.

That's why that note that is 2+times louder is low enough that it is almost never in the every day music. and trust me thet rest of the system will keep up!
