I found a '04 GXP in a junkyard with the Homelink setup next to the rear view mirror. Will this work with my 2008 GXP that only has the sunroof switch and interior lights in that pod?

Unless your car was wired with it, I don't know how you'll get a factory unit to work.

You will have to do some digging to see if the BCM is a function of the homelink system.

Also they didn't make GXP's in 2004, they are 2005-2008 only but it's not like that matters much.

Interesting idea. I would try to find a wiring diagram and see how the switches/buttons work. If all they require is power then it would be easy. I would lean towards it actually being simple like that. Let us know what you find out.

Not sure about the homelink you have, but I just grabbed on off a volvo and it's just a power and ground. Wired up to sunroof and I'm good to go. If it's two wires. That's it. Look out for a write up I'm doing. It's on a 97-02 but it works for any car really.

Homelink only ever needs power and ground. and you can find plenty of things power and ground up in that area. GM and most other car makers used battery power FWIW.

The only maker I have found that used ignition power is Audi. It is so friggin annoying lol

GPX Grand Prix's were introduced as a 2004 model in November, 2003. Mine is a 2008.

Food for thought, (and this may not matter to some but this actually happened to me) but if you wire it to battery and someone breaks into your car at home, they can just hit the garage door and bam, they're into your house!

Fortunately, I had a security system and they must have been inexperienced so all I was left with is a scared wife and a broken window.

My preference, wire to ignition. It's a pain to get used to, but it keeps what happened to me from happening to you!

You may want to check your facts there, not to argue but there is no V8 powered grand prix for 2004 model year.

    2004 had GT1, GT2, GTP (Comp-g's as well) with GTP's being a supercharged 3800.

2005 was GT1, GT2, GTP (Comp-G's as well) and GXP with the V8.

2006-2007 was base, GT (supercharged) and GXP V8.

2008 was base and GXP only.

    Yay internet.

Cam.. I forget when Comp g started. I think 04. A buddy called and asked me about gasket for SC because he had gotten wrong one at shop twice. I went up. Saw a comp g, one year before it was made per vin and reg. GM did some funky stuff. And you are right to caveat. Cause.. some stuff did happen
