Since I have the entire interior stripped right now (down to the sheet metal), I figured I'd go ahead and upgrade the speakers a bit. Looking at the Infinity Kappa 62.11i 6 1/2" door speakers ( I know I need to mod the mounts to fit them), and Infinity Kappa 693.11i 6x9's for the rear. Anyone have experience with these speakers? I know there are some audiophile guys here that may have some good input.

I'm not looking to win any SPL contests, just trying to upgrade a bit. I'm not going to connect the factory tweeters in the sail panel up front, and have a line on a Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS from a friend. I don't want a sub right now, but I will be running all the cables to the back in prep of one and an amp in the future. Also will be installing new speaker wire for the doors/deck since I have access to everything. Of course I'll be ordering the adapter harness to retain the chime and steering wheel controls. And no, I do NOT have the Bose system in my 00 GT.

Also, not going double-din, and not getting a flip up display unit (will block the vents and look dumb).

I believe the chimes and tones were not added to the radio until '05+ but I could be mistaken.

Do you have a budget to spend? I'd advise getting component speakers and replacing your sail panel tweeters.

Infinity is a great brand and most monsoon guys get the 2(3) ohm components as they are the best when retaining OEM wiring/amp.

Honestly in my '99GT coupe I didn't need subs, the 6x9 alpine S drove enough low end with an aftermarket head unit.

You're correct on the chimes/tones. So used to finding posts on the 04+ cars.

I'd love to get components, but getting them mounted correctly (i.e.- not in the factory tweeter location) is more than I want to mess with right now. I know they would sound better in the long run but I needed to pick something with relatively easy install and go with it.

So glad I don't have the Monsoon/Bose nonsense.

Just found out I lost out on the Pioneer, so I picked up an Alpine CDE-163BT. Going to go with the Infinity's for now. For the stereo, all install pieces needed (including steering wheel adapter), and all 4 speakers I spent $450 so I can't complain. Of course this doesn't account for new speaker wire and amp install kit.
