Help from members who have replaced 04-08 door speaker components

I have tried searching for info on this (way more info on the 97-03 GP door speaker installs) but here goes
Have a 04 GP want to replace the front door speakers ( prefer components but open to any ideas)and was wanting to hear from people who have done it..are theyre any components that go in with out any major mods? I have read many posts on speakers fitting (lot are not components tho) and most dont use the factory tweeter but I want to install a set of components and am wondering about tweeter replacement and do any fit right in the GP tweeter cut out?
I have also read some people who still use the factory tweeter with theyre new 6-1/2 speaker?

Also wondering if its better to get 6-1/2 speaker vs a 6-3/4 for easier install?

I am hoping to hear what people installed in theyre 04-08 GP'S doors.
I have installed many car audio stuff in my day (yes I am old!) so some modification isnt a biggie but its always nice to have speakers that fit without them.

The factory speakers sit in a black plastic bowl that then attaches to the door. I cut the back off of the plastic piece and mounted my mid-range only speakers to it on the INSIDE of it. So I had a "ring" that had the 3 screw holes for the door frame, and 4 holes for that the aftermarket speaker mounted to from the back, instead of sitting IN the bowl like the factory speakers did.

I unsoldered the connectors from the factory speakers and soldered to my new ones and that was it. Retained factory tweeters.

so I take it you had a "full range" but when installed your way the highs go to the tweeter and your replacement speaker just gets everything else? are you running an amp to it or just a HU?

Using all stock wiring. The factory front speakers doesn't do highs either, that's why there is a tweeter in the door. The speaker I replaced them with also came out a box with a stand alone tweeter so it was an even swap sound wise other then being a little louder since it's a little bigger. When I have time, I'll go pull my door panel off so you can see exactly what I mean, it was a pretty simple and effective way.

I understand what you mean you bought a new component speaker and didn't use that new speakers tweeter just replaced the 6-1/2 mid range? .. since I am going to amp the door speakers I doubt the factory tweeter will be able to handle the wattage but maybe it can...
I have no problems removing or wiring the door speaker..I am more interested in hearing from people who installed a new set of components and mainly the tweeter installation if they removed the whole stock tweeter and grill and flush mounted a new tweeter in there and if there were any that didn't require much cutting or just went right in and also if the 6-1/2 speaker fit without any major mods ..
I am probably going to get a set of Alpine SPS-610C 6-1/2 components and from what I have researched the tweeter is almost the exact same size to flush mount it.
Just hoping to hear if anyone had good or bad luck fitting new components on a 04-08 GP door

I've had a pair of pioneers and a pair of infinity, both literally just bolted in. Not a single issue.

Yup. The woofers bolt in no problem, then I chose to go with double sided tape for the crossover and tweeter. Granted, the previous owner must have done something with the tweeters because it was a little bit hacked up in there, so I went with more tape :P
Still, it was pretty straightforward.

when you say you used double sided tape did you mean you mounted them in the stock location (under door behind factory tweeter grill and or in that stock location with the factory grill removed and the new tweeter went in stock location?) or you top mounted them with double sided tape on the door somewhere?

I wrapped the tape around the tweeter and wedged it into the factory housing. :S it's tough to describe, and it was pretty messed up from the last guy.

I installed a set of Rockford Fosgate components in the front door of my 04 with very little modification. All I had to do was cut the back side of the factory tweeter mount and that allowed me to flush mount the new tweeter. It really was a simple process. I used a my Dremel.

i just unplugged the 6 1/2 cut the connector off and wired in a 6 1/2 pioneer bolted in place and left factory tweeter alone it still sounds good and they havnt blown yet i have a pioneer single din too.

Well I did learn 1 thing while trying to replace my door speakers that I didnt know before hand..if you want a speaker (6-1/2 speaker) to fit in the factory baffle with no mods it needs to measure 6-1/4 inches or less circumference I got a set of Alpine Components and they wouldnt fit and they were 6-1/2 inches circumference..

I made the mistake of getting 6.75" mid bass speakers and I had to cut the hell out of the speaker pod to get them to fit. It was a pain but I'm glad I did it because they sound amazing.

Anyone have a picture of the stock setup as is and behind the door? I am planing on using some 6.5's but I think I am going to make an enclosure and mount them to the door panel and reinforce the rear with fiberglass and seal it off. then make some nice grills to cover the speakers, Then use my angle mounts to put some Boston tweeters just above the door in the corner.

For those of you that replaced them with new components did anyone use a setup like Rockford that has a crossover built into the main speaker and the tweeter connects to it? I have P165-SI and I hooked the tweeter into the 6.5" like the manual says but it sounds awful!!! No highs and crackles if I turn the volume up past like 10 on my kenwood dnx692

I installed a set of Image Dynamics 6.5 component sets in the front doors amped. Stick some Dynomat (or cheaper equivalent) on the door skin to stop vibrations. Seal the door with Dynomat to block sound reflections from the backside of the speaker. Mass loaded vinyl to absorb outside noise. Let it hang. Mount at top. Remove the cheap plastic midbass speaker mounts and make a set out of mdf. Mount the 6.5 and tweeters in the panel. Ran the wiring to the crossovers under the dash then to the amp in the trunk. Took a day but they sound fantastic! Looks stock with the door panel back on. Only differences are the tweeter is black instead of the grey metal mesh cover. Amp is mounted on the underside of the deck.

Most components need an amp to reach their potential. Running off a headunit just encourages clipping the signal and distortion. Not enough power from the headunit so you crank it up til the point of clipping, hurting the speakers.
