im sure its the same for a v8, so ill post how i do it for a 3800. minuse the bleeder valve part i guess.
how to flush coolant.
remove the t stat, put the t stat housing back on, take the upper hose off the radiator, then push it down to the ground to a bucket or let it fly.
get your garden hose out, put it in the rad turn it on, then fire up the car, let it run till clear water pumps out the top hose.
then turn the hose off, run the car till no more water comes out the upper hose. then turn it off.
put your t stat back in, with new gasket, the upper hose back on.
now take 1 gallon of full strength green antifreeze, not the 50/50 crap. ( parts store cheap green is fine to use) dump the whole gallon in the radiator, fire up the car, fill the rad with hose water till its full. top as needed till its ready to be bled of air. it will burp and take coolant as the water in the block warms up the t stat opens up for a few seconds till cold coolant hits it and it shuts again.
now to bleed the air out, let it idle rad cap off till the fans turn on, (when the fans are on the temp is over 195 deg, the t stat is wide open) then open the bleeder screw on top the t stat housing a few turns till a steady stream of coolant comes out the hole, shut the screw, top off the rad. cap it.
Thanks for the reply but im looking for a how to on removing the splash guard underneath the engine to gain access to the drain cock and lower rad hoses.
Well i need that splash guard removed. the gxp doesnt really have an upper hose except for one thats 1/2 up or a smaller probably 3/4 in hose thats from the very top.
well if you want to do a incomplete flush... get the car on ramps or jack stands so you can see and get a screw driver under the bumper. theres likely some screws and a bunch of them push in clips. most you pull the middle part out, then the rest of the clip comes out, its like a molly anchor but reusable.
I removed all the push in clips and the few bolts that go to the fender guard. Now all that remains i think is a deep square hole with some sort of fastener located middle front of the splash guard. I can't determine what kind of fastener it is.

I feel like its metal but I cannot get a socket around it or a screw driver to slot into it so im unsure of how to remove this. I think its the last piece to removing the whole guard.
never seen one like that. looks like its either cracked on the edge there, or its a metal clip that slides off the head there. id play with a angle pic, see if you can make some thing move.
I'm pretty sure it's a plastic rivet. That's the lower radiator wind deflector right? That long plastic piece underneath it? I had to take mine off to change the starter. I used some of those long curved needle nose pliers to yank them out. They can be a PITA.
Just grab the guard and yank. Replace whatever breaks. That's how I roll.
I got a long 90° pick to remove that clip. The center pulls out
Got the middle piece disconnected now its still hanging up just short of removing the bumper now for this pita
Jesus you 3800 guys, look if you want to remove the bumper its not going to help fyi, if you want full access the fans need to come off, not the bumper, or just reach down in there and get to it.
