Thread: ABS/TCS problems

I'd bet on this. That sensor went out on my CTS and took the traction control with it. Why on God's green Earth the car needs to know the steering wheel position when it should know the wheel positions at all times, and that's what matters, I've no idea.

The stability control uses data from the wheel speed sensors, the steering wheel position sensor and the yaw rate sensor usually located under the center console. In this way the abs module, the Transmission control module, and the engine control module, can modulate the brakes individually at each wheel and cut engine power in order for the driver to maintain control of the vehicle. For example, if the rear end of the car was skidding to the right and you were steering to the right and applying the brakes, the stability control system would sense this and cut engine power, modulate the abs on the right side of the vehicle. The system works well in the winter on icy roads.
