Thread: Changing fuel pump on 05'

Have you run the part number on amazon? I paid like $175 for a '99 gtp pump for my gt, delphi. Haven't ever looked up prices on '04+ pumps, but don't see any reason they'd be much more.

Don't use airtex whatever you do, will maybe last a year, garbage pumps.

Amazon is legit, I compare prices between there and rockauto and go with whatever is cheaper. Probably spent around $2k on parts there the last year or so fixing up various stuff.

I'm sure some '04+ guys will be along to answer your question about pulling the canister apart.

I have a walbro 255 i'm getting ready to install sometime this week or next weekend in my 04 comp g. I think i got a pm from you last month about the install.

I'll let you know how it goes but i'm going to the jy tomorrow to see about finding a venturi canister so i don't have the "don't let it run below 1/4 tank issue". I generally don't run it that low, but with an aftermarket pump i believe you starve it below that level in ours.

If i can't get the venturi canister, i'm just going to pull out what we got and throw in the new pump. See how it works. May have to fab some tubing or some junk up to make the janky crap work, i'll see.

I believe 04 still has the access panel under the rear seat while 05+ does not.

Mine has the access behind the seats/in the trunk. I think you're right though stealthee about the 05's.

Besides that issue, i'll let you know if the pump is just plug and play or if i have to do nasty stuff to it to make it work.

It wasn't me but I'll be interested for sure. I know it can't be that difficult. I have not seen anything other than the pics. I was headed to the jy yesterday but got there too late so I'm going to have to wait till next week. I didn't even know how this "returnless" fuel system worked. I thought that they varied the fuel pump voltage and used a pressure sensor as feedback.

I have also heard of a resistor being used to drop the current during low demand.

So I'm a little behind the power curve on some of the 05+ cars. Any info on other systems is appreciated as well.

Update for interested parties******

I just finished installing a walbro 255 in my comp g. I've only driven about ten minutes since the install, but it seems to run good. Pump is louder than stock and works well so far (in very limited use since I finished).

I didnt really have to hack anything up or do any fancy sh1t to it. Had to splice in the new wiring, but everything else seemed just plug and play.
I'll do a writeup with the pics I took in a few days once I know its not gonna grenade on me.
