hey scot, what are you thought on blocking the coolant to either the LIM or just the supercharger?
You know, Im just not a big fan of doing things like that. Now that could be because maybe I dont fully understand the benefits or fully see the point, but Ive just never been a fan of such things unless there was very clear benefits.
What I do know, however, is that if you block off coolant flow in the LIM in the way that it is normally done there is a modification you have to make to the LIM coolant bypass or whatever it is called. If you look at the LIM from the drivers side, around where the LIM sits in the lifter valley, you'll see a hump on the LIM that is held on with two bolts. I forgot what it is technically called, but in the middle of that hump is a divider in the LIM that you have a notch out some or blocking off coolant flow in the way it is normally done in the LIM will result in reduced if not restricted coolant flow to the rear bank of cylinders.
Im not saying blocking off the coolant flow in the LIM is a bad thing, I just dont see the need but if you do do that, be sure to modify that area that I mentioned.
There was a guy on here that is not on here quite as frequently as he once was that goes by the screen name Turbocharged400sbc and if you PM him he can probably send you some pics. Im pretty sure I have them but I dont know where they are at right now and if you'll forgive me, Im not horribly motivated to dig around for them, but if you get no response from him I will try to find them.
its no big deal man i was just curious. but that about the S/C and TB? sorry bout all the ?'s just kinda curious how these things tick!
Its all good. Ask all you want. If I know the answer I'll do my best, if I dont Im sure there is someone else on here that does that can help out.
could i just blok off the holes in the s/c so that coolant does not heat up the charger and tb?
is there a way to see or check to see if my LIM has cracks in it causing a coolant leak?...
and why do the rotors need a coating on them?
Technically, I suppose they dont, as you can drive with rotors with no coating. The problem is that the coating serves as protection for the rotors themselves but also tightens up the clearances between the rotors and the case so that your not leaking boost that route and it also serves as protection between the rotors themselves.
ah. got ya. that makes sense. i just noticed mine is trying to peel away slowly. so with sealing the s/c coolant, all i really have to do is get in the "window" on the tb side and cut a 1/4" in between the path in there right? then i seal the 3 holes on the LIM correct?
I believe that may be correct, but Ive never done this so I may not be the best one to rely on for this one.
cool cool dont even worry about it man!
Whats the status on your car? Did you ever replace the head gaskets? Is it running yet?
money ran short this month. but next friday i get paid and will get the gasket set, i have the arp studs on order, so i can start putting it back together next weekend. how do you recomend i get the gasket off the block?....
LOL. Lots and Lots of elbow grease. Id use a scraper to get the majority of it off, then there are some conditioning discs that you can by from 3M I believe that look like scotch pads and are about 2 - 3" in diameter that you can use to clean the rest of it off.
I dont know all what to tell you on this as I have yet to clean the gasket material off my block and heads, though they are apart in the garage. I do know, from the information Ive read in the community and across the internet that you want to make sure you get everything as clean as possibly can be had.
as i pm'ed you scotty, i got her running and really appriciate all your help and advice! you are a great asset! apparently you just cant use coolant as a combustion fuel?!? who knew??? but anyways thanks again to EVERYONE for all the help! and hopefully this thread will help others diagnose problems they may be having!
Thank you for your patience. Im glad you got it all running again. One of these days I may have to go through this thread and dig out all the symptoms, all the suggestions and of course the actual fix. While I can imagine it was nerve racking for you, it was a good troubleshoot, we, specifically me, didnt put it all together.
Well i have been watching this thread since it started and I'm glad you got your car running again man!!!
thanks man! and i was hard not nerve racking. im used to engines just getting around sucked...but its all good now. i just have one more ? haha how the heck does the dip stick mouunt? haha anyone have a pic?
