Rob...what are you seeing that I'm not? Looks lined up to me.
It would have been fun to agree with you just to mess with Nick..but he's already got enough work in front of him.

Nick..you might want to consider finding the magnets that LS based engine guys use during a cam install to hold the lifters up. That way you wouldn't have to take off the LIM.
That sucks man. I would say this is your problem. Why would it chew the key though is my question. I would reinstall the whole valve train. A lifter or pushrod might be getting stuck and causing excess of drag.
There's always Jason's issue. His lifters overpumped and basically caused an issue. Look up the Hitman Hoopyde thread.
Shows that it isn't lined up with the balancer drive gear. That's er uh...tough to accomplish.
The balance gear is also the camshaft, correct (Been a while since I've been in there)? If the timing gear isn't lined up properly with that gear, it would mean that the cam timing was off by quite a bit.

Well.. kinda.
You put the cam with key into the motor. Then thrust plate, after that is the gear to drive the balance shaft. Line up it's dot with the balance shaft dot. Then the cam gear goes on, it's dot is lined up with the crank gear dot. Both the balance drive gear and cam gear ride on the cam together and use the same key to hold their orientation.
Well, I found my problem, but I wish I hadn't.
1 Crate motor soon to be ordered as the pushrods are bent, valves are bent, lifters are broken and cam bearings are shot.
