Well I want to MOD my 2004 Grand prix GTP Comp g Get a PCM and a pulley upgrade but i am not sure what i need to get in order to do this. I know i need A PCM, smaller pulley and tighter belts. I am not sure if i need anything else from that. My car is stock it has the paddel shifters, and i dont know if they have a PCM especifically made for a comp g. Basically i would like to know if i have to mod engine before adding this parts in. So i guess my question is what do i need in order to get an upgrade PCM and Pulley and where can i get it?

Heres a list of things to consider and probably do before getting a pulley:

(keep in mind this is what is recommended at the minimum)

    - 3" Downpipe (with or without cat, your choice. Without cat you may fail emissions tests)

    - Intake (either make a custom one for cheap or buy an expensive wizair, thrasher or K&N)

    - Front Powerlog (the front exhaust manifold is supposedly very restrictive, the rear manifold is ok)

    - PCM (If you haven't noticed Overkill is widely known here. There people on the boards who can retune your pcm also for probably cheaper. I myself went with the overkill)

    - Pulley puller (you cannot and do not want to take that pulley off without the specific tool, M90 pulley puller. You can rent one from ZZP or buy your own)

    - Belt (don't know exactly what size)

    - Pulley (Press-on pulley or Modular. Modular allows you to take the pulleys off and on without the pulley puller. Initially you need the puller to take the stock pulley off, but thereafter you use allen wrenches I believe. The press-on pulley are for taking the pulley on and off only using the puller)

-Scan (Research KR (knock retard). Its something you don't want and your car has a lot of it. You have to make sure you don't have KR before you drop a pulley. KR is measured in degrees, some people stock see as much as 7 or degrees stock. Every car is a little different and will act different to mods, so "baby" your way into it so your engine doesnt blow up in your face)

Ok, this is minimum mods. Pretty soon a lot of people are going to chime in and say you need this and that and this. Our stock pulley is 3.8" With what is above you can go to a 3.5" depending on your KR situation. Theres some people on here who say you need stronger Rockers and Springs to move down farther, I would probably recommend that but with the 3.5" I personally think you are OK not doing that. Oh and remember your transmission doesnt like you. I would think about swticing to Dexron 6 and maybe adding a transmission cooler for peace of mind.

Places to buy ****: ZZP Performance (zzperformance.com)
    W body Store (wbodystore.com)
    3800Performance (3800performance.com)

Hope this helps understand a few things. This is the way I see it for the most part.

In addition to what he said I'd add a 180* stat and some AL 104 plugs. Oh and personally I would ditch 3in downpipe/powerlog combo and just go headers from the start, because if you ever want to mod further you're going to want headers anyway. Just trying to save you some trouble and headache, trust me I know.

Are you sure? If so all you'll need to pull that off is probably a Fenderwell intake,P-log and a pcm from overkill or intense...just not zzp or dhp.

I ran a 14.6 with a p-log, FWI and my tuner with some transmssion tuning along with a maf tune.

you got the comp g with better suspension so that helps out the hole, plus you have 3.29 gears also the gen V blower so it runs pretty good.

does it matter if i just get the pcm first and the intake rather than getting the pulley and all the other upgrades or does it have to be all at the same time??

You'll be fine getting just the PCM and intake. DO NOT mess with pulley sizes until AFTER you have a sufficient amount of exhaust mods, which you will be able to determine by scanning. Since our cars are getting older and KR is becoming more of a problem I would suggest getting header's before you start dropping pulley sizes.

Aftermarket PCM's just have a generic tune, they aren't really mod specific. If you want a tune that is set up specifically for your car and the mods you have, then you're going to have to get a tuner. But to kinda answer your question if you get a pcm, you'll be fine with adding mods later, no need to change anything. Tuning it would be better, but for most cases it isn't really necessary.

overkill is designed specifically for your car. that is why everybody says there pcms are so good. but if you get a pcm and its only tunned for an intake and you wanna drop pulley sizes you will have to get a retuned.

Not really. His PCM's are generically tuned for the specific mods, every car is different and will react differently to certain mods. What overkill is doing is basically just using an educated guess, it isn't specifically for HIS car.

yeah cause i was thinking about getting the overkill pcm to put in my car with what they already programmed into it so. and the only i am going to do know for my car is just add the overkill pcm and the the wizaired cai do and later on add the everything else like exhaust mod and pulley sizes drop. the thing is i dont want to be sending my overkill pcm back and foward.
