you may be correct but the engine bay is pretty cramped On a F body i am sure they would but with fighting KR i would wrap those headers good.I was thinking about wrapping what i could on the stock pieces crossover atleast couldnt hurt.

Whoever had the car removed the cat and put on a glassback, which some do for a little backpressure and it had a glasspack already in the stock location. So ya its cobbled, I will have to start from scratch. The bender we have right now only goes up to 2.5 inch another reason i wanna use 2.5 lol.I think maybe some kind of turbo muffler like a dyno max or idk just guessing.I had a Grand Am with a 3400 and ran a dual out flowmaster but it was pretty loud.I dont want loud or raspy.

Then you want a stock muffler. Just like you want a stock catback because its not a restriction, your manifolds and downpipe are.

Anything but stock mufflers sound like crap.

But you'd know that if you bothered to search any of these topics.

They've all been covered a thousand times.

My idea is to take the stock flange on the manifold open it up to a little past 2.5 weld in a 2.5 flex to that and build a straight as i can make it 2.5. I can get it real close too the floor i am deleting the 02 so wont have to deal with that. I had another regal gs and i did something similair it was all stock except exhaust and CAI.

lol no i built an exhaust for a f body 3 in single it sounded kinda mean at idle but after that is sucked i know i will run into the same issues with the regal thats why i hope to use 2.5 inch.If i get KR readings that will cause damage i will buy the headers asap guys i am hoping to get away with the 2.5 for now.Probably stupid but for one i have never even heard the engine run.

    look....guy...

do you wanna know why the vendors say you can run that pulley size with no mods??

ill state it again since you obviously didnt understand what blue said earlier.

they say this **** so youll buy from them, if you broke down the specs in their tunes, you would see that they drown the **** out of the engine in fuel to keep knock (predetonation) at bay.

if you knew what you were reading, and actually learned something from us, then you would have noticed the n/a stage kits suggest using 104 plugs.....you will never use a 104 plug on an n/a car because it is TOO COLD....Also the same concept as the stupid pig rich tune, keep the cylinders cold. STILL NOT HELPING YOUR ENGINE!!!!!

Buy a scan gauge/aeroforce...SCAN THE CAR!!!!....Put FLOW MODS ON, fix whatever you have to in the exhaust system, but just listen to us when we say that it doesnt need modified. a 2.5 catback will not effect what is going on in the cylinders. HEADERS, on the other hand, have a GIGANTO****INGMATIC EFFECT on how much knock you will have.

Like he said. They want to sell you a downpipe, then a plog. Then a set of headers.

Untill it causes the exhaust underneath to rust...

That's because most of those guys are old school GP owners. I ran a 3.4 pulley with intake, dp, and 1st gen Intense PCM with 0KR.

And I guess I will add my name to the lucky list since I've owned 4 modded GP's all were daily's, 1 of which had a 3.0 setup and another which has 200K miles on the factory engine with a turbo kit and none of them chipped a piston.

    Can you run a 3.4" with plugs/t-stat/canned PCM/downpipe? Sure.

Can ALL cars? Not in any reality.

Most of these cars are getting older...and can't handle what they could off the showroom floor 10+ years ago.

Infact, many people here still get knock with headers and a 3.4"...and a CUSTOM wideband tune...

Which is why I say...valvetrain mods are key...and a tune > pulley envy; I'd run a stock pulley with headers and a leaner AFR + higher timing and running a piggy AFR and stock timing or less with a 3.4".

That's the main reason behind my Safely Modding thread. It points people in the SAFE direction, not like all the vendors that just say (Let's take ZZP for example)..."BUY OUR STAGE 1 OR 2 OR 3 PACKAGES AND GO SUPER FAST WITHOUT SCANNING THE CAR".

First things first should be maintenence.

Second, a way to scan the car...ALA tuner...or aeroforce.

Third, address the exhaust issues...you want to get rid of: AT THE LEAST the crappy front manifold, downpipe, and the u-bend...which can be easily done with a cheap set of headers...which are about, if not less than the price of a downpipe now days.

    Fourth, then think about a pulley system...like an MPS...try a 3.6", then a 3.4"...then if that works for you...then re-tune for it...buy a wideband...make it spot on...

Tossing crap on a car and hoping for the best isn't the best route to go about it.
    I don't remember typing this.

Maybe you should skim it again.

In the end a scanner should be your first mod. Im sure thats something everyone here can agree on. How people drive around without monitoring detonation is beyond me. It seems like youre more concerned with sound than anything else. You can build whatever catback you like, thats your preference. But at the end of the day that is not going to flow no better than the real bottlenecks of the system which are the manifolds and the downpipe. If you dont want headers right now just get the pulley, intake, pcm, plugs, and scan. Many of us ran for years like this with zero problems. Also if carbon build up is a concern seafoam the engine. Its easy and kinda cool at night. Good luck on your build, let us know what worked for you.

WHY IS EVERYONE SO OPPOSED TO DOING A COMPRESSION TEST TO TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS?

We have a 5000.00 Snap On Solus at work i will scan it for sure. I will build my own downpipe it will be 2.5 all the way out with a free flowing 2.5 muffler as the only restriction.I dont want it real loud not sure what kind of muffler to run maybe a borla. I been listening better guys i am thinking about the headers are the SSCA as good as the SD? Do they both have issues that need addressed? How much is shipping for the SCCA didnt say on their site? The SD's went for about 215 shipped on ebay last auction.I like what t24moore said use the pulley, intake, stat, plugs, tune and scan only. The thing is i am upgrading the exhaust full 2.5 no cat, least bend as possible, no 02 so i can tuck it in close.I am debating the headers PER Grand Prix Forums Members! Couple questions when making your own CAI should A Mount the filter right on the TB?B Use a short piece of pvc or silicone coupler and mount the IAT sensor in that? Or should i make a homemade intake and put it near the old filter box or fender? Also i removed the stock airbox what should i do about the PCM ? I would like to add a cam can this be done like a LS engine do the lifters pop up ? Am i able to cam it with just removing the front cover?
