Im not really crazy about the coated pistons. I wasnt even before Branson, but as a result of information obtained there Im even more convinced I'll go with non-coated pistons.

I wish someone made just a straigh forged piston for our cars that was not ridiculously expensive. But Im willing to accept my price expectations are out of whack too.

What I probably need to do is to sit down with someone that is knowlegeable about building motors and discuss this and the options. I would love it to be someone with a butt load of experience with the 3800 but Im unlikely to find that around here.

I have found forged pistons, a complete set, for our cars for under $600, but of course that does not include the wrist pins and rings. I just know that Im not crazy about the coated pistons and would rather use uncoated ones at this stage.

I'm not too knowledgeable in that area, so I didn't know if they were worth a damn or not.

Well again, the only reason I want forged pistons is for some head room dealing with any KR, otherwise I would stay with the stock pistons. But if Im going to build a motor, its going to have some built in allowances for unforeseen troubles.

My plan is still "blow it, L26/L32 and never look back".

Experience in Oklahoma with 3800's doubtful.

    Wichita on the other hand...yes.

2 machine shops have done several for locals, as well as out of towner's.

As of a few weeks ago, we have a new business in town that is 3800 specific.

    FTW Motorsports.

Co owner is Ryan Cheney, many of you may know him as "FieroX" on the boards.

He will be bringing a whole new array of parts for our cars to the market. First line of business...affordable billet fuel logs as one example.

I hate to drive all the way to Wichita to get work done, but I hate just as much the thought of taking all of it to a shop with no experience on the 3800 platform.
