this depends on the vehicle and airflow into that area.
the big advantage to ANY FWI design is getting the filter away from hot engine air.
I adapted my stock panel filter to a 4" FWI with the "lid" to the stock airbox. enlarged opening, glued in 4" pipe, finished intake. Mine goes DEEP into the fender area under the side signal light because on the PAU the headlight/side marker blocks the traditional FWI location.
My IAT readings now average as little as 1.5* over ambient as indicated by the car's outside temp gauge at cruise. typically they are 2 to 5 over ambient average compared to 4 to 11 average with a gutted stock airbox.
