after u mod these cars. does the life of the motor go down ... i mean i keep hearing the 3.8l is one of the most reliable motors from GM ... and mines got 140K on it i am not trying to blow it up ... but i deff want to go faster then stock haha

the motors are good and durable. It's typically the trans that gives up first.

Agreed. But even with the trans, if driven right and modded to take the power, can last. I still have the stock trans in my GTP with 277k miles. Now that's not typical. But the car was modded and ran low 13s at one point on that trans. Getting weak now, but still runs strong.Originally Posted by BillBoost37

I forget..what year is your car? Around 2000, GM changed the parameters in the computer and most would set it off.

Yea I don't think you have anything to worry about when it comes to the engine. Just mod properly and you should be fine. I'm at 190K on my 97 GTP with a turbo kit and my car still runs like a champ.

Haven't been to the track yet as my fuel pump took a dump. Ordered a racetronix which should be here Friday. Gonna try and hit up the track next week. I have a stock engine so I don't expect stellar results. Probably will be 1/8th mile though. I'm not a fan of the 1/4 mile. After the 1/8th mile you are just waiting for the finish line.

hey is it true that having my CAI by the driver side foglight wont give me as much HP gain as just leaving it in the fender... i figured theres colder air down there by the foglights??

this depends on the vehicle and airflow into that area.
the big advantage to ANY FWI design is getting the filter away from hot engine air.
I adapted my stock panel filter to a 4" FWI with the "lid" to the stock airbox. enlarged opening, glued in 4" pipe, finished intake. Mine goes DEEP into the fender area under the side signal light because on the PAU the headlight/side marker blocks the traditional FWI location.
My IAT readings now average as little as 1.5* over ambient as indicated by the car's outside temp gauge at cruise. typically they are 2 to 5 over ambient average compared to 4 to 11 average with a gutted stock airbox.
