Well, I'm able to get regular unleaded gas for free. Is it ok to put it into the car if I buy that Ocatane boost junk? And since gas is so damn expensive that's really hard to pass up.

Sure you can. Take your belt off, skip the octane booster and deal with the lack of power. It'll be cheaper.
wait... your getting it free?
bro just put in a gallon of xylene and a squirt of marval mystery oil and use the regular if its free... depending on what your octane rating is for regular grade that mix should net you atleast in the 90s octane wise...
wow lucky. but yeah, premium only bruh.
my friends nag me all the time that i need to wein the prix off the premium gas but im like yea, no. it will knock and die.
I'm betting he works at a salvage yard. They gotta get rid of the fuel that's in the tanks. Never know what it is or how old some of it might be.
They all toss it in their tanks and smile all the way down the road for free fuel.
Nah actually I farm and we buy gas and Diesel on a HUGE bulk(thousands of gallons at a time). And well the owner of the whole company is actually my father in law, so he has always let my old lady fill up for free. But now since I work for him he told me I could get gas as I needed it.
Just dont get caught![]()
I dunno about cheaper.
If it's 87 octane regular, one gallon of Xylene (118 octane) for every 14 gallons regular (15 gallon fillup)
You will wind up with 89 octane. Depending on how cheap you can get Xylene this might be a good option, just be sure to add two gallons Xylene for every 13 gallons which would put you at 91.
Caught this thread looking for 93octane in the Salt Lake area... Take it from an old refinery operator, treat ANY of the 'enes with extreme caution. They are very hazardous to handle. It's true we add tolulene to boost octane and the higher the octane the more tolulene is in there, but it's added to the tanks in a sealed system. A carbon filtered half mask and long rubber gloves would be the minimum protection I would use putting this into your gas tank. The chemical will do a fine job of stripping the paint off your car, and as a bonus you'll get to increase your chances for blood cancers. It's not worth it, just pony up for the premium and enjoy the way these great cars run... now if I could just find some 93octane...
Or you could do some mods to lower your boost levels and then tune out any remaining knock... You'd spend $200 a month on gas anyhow, might as well make your car faster in the process of saving that money.
Buy some headers and a Powertuner. You'll be a lot faster than stock even on 87 octane. You may not even need to back timing down.
I've been running 85 octane in my 98 GTP for ~60k miles without issue (I have 136k now).
I've also added a 3.2 pulley about 25k miles ago and keep running the "junk" without A SINGLE issue. I've tested it with a scanner and can only manage intermittent bursts of 4* KR at extended WOT.
I've not blown up my engine, chipped a piston, thrown any codes, lost mileage, or any of the other horror stories that you can ready about here and elsewhere.
If you search, you will see a long thread regarding this subject.
I'm in Denver with less oxygen and I've contended that it results in less knock.
If I were you, I would fill up on the free stuff, get a scanner, and see how much knock you get.
As others have and will caution you - you run less than 93 octane at your own risk. Like anything else, it's a tradeoff and you need to decide for yourself what the risk is worth.
I can't guarantee you will be as lucky as me, but it's certainly worth a shot.
We're screwed in utah al. Only option is race fuel or 91 :/
Get a low octane tune.
There's options in Powertuner and HPT for low octaine tuning. It says you can run the regular stuff in the manual if you have to. My opinion on this is, yes you can burn it but do not romp, get into boost, or do any hot rodding. Anything above half throttle is a no no.
This is what i'm currently doing. I refuse to run anything less than 91 Premium. I've been driving 5-10 under the speed limit on the hwy's and have been averaging about 3-5 mpgs more. I used to adverage about 24 mpg according to my DIC and 22 according to my calculator. I've been keeping my rpms's under 3k, and have been accelerating slower and driving slower. Is it fun NO! Has it saved me money YES! I paid 70bux to fill up 2 weeks ago so I want to make this tank last. This current tank has lasted me 2 weeks vs the usual 1.25 weeks.
