my 98 gtp has 193000 on it and im not exactly sure what to do. the car is bone stock with a custom cai but i want to do more mods. Nothin extreme at the moment just a 3.4 pulley and supporting mods. i already changed lower intake gaskets, tb, s/c, valve cover and new o rings on the injectors. my worry is is that if i start doin those mods that somethins goin to give out cause of the high mileage. so do u think a refresh would be good and just take a look a the rod bearings to see if they need to be replaced? or just say the hell with it and buy a lower mileage engine and just go from there?

    Thanks for your time

Only thing I'd worry about next is the timing chain and tensioner. Other than that...next thing would be possibly the oil pan gasket/water pump...but these bottom ends run forever...there was a guy on here...not sure if he still has the car but it was a rockered/IC/header car...1997 and it had nearly 300K on it...he replaced the transmission in it though I think...that will be the next thing on your list but the bottom ends are virtually bulletproof unless your me or kfish. We've probably blown up 15 between the 2 of us.

Holy crap...that's quite a few engines but yea I do have a oil leak and its gettin worse. I thought it was the valve cover gaskets but they are replaced. I looked under the engine and the oil pan is soaked so that leads me to belive that its the oil pan now. The car still runs strong except for a vibration I can't pinpoint. It only does it at idle in gear or drive I was thinkin possibly motor mounts but not sure. I'm gonna rebuild the transmission at some point but if its still holdin up too

I can do the rebuild myself but its my daily driver and i dont want it down for that long. Thats why i was leaning more torward the refresh so then it wouldnt be down for nearly as long. I wasnt wanting to go crazy on it....yet. I just want some extra hp

do not do a rebuild. finding a low mileage motor is much cheaper. gaskets alone are about 300 for a full gasket set. piston rings are another 100, plus every bolt in the bottom end is tty.

I'd rebuild them a million times after the luck I've had and you should be saying the same thing Kristina. Cmon now. Plus...if he buys ARP main and head studs he will never have to buy them again.

machine work + time + gaskets and bearings and rings are not worth it imo.

It's worth it if he toasts another few engines.
