hey im new here, i own 2 99 v6 cougars but thats not why im here
my uncle has a 98ish olds 88 with a 3800 and from what he tells me it blew a head gasket then spun a bearing.... and he has asked me to put a new engine in it for him, im not new to engine swaps but i am to gm engines can anyone give me an idea on to what major things i will have to pull when i pull the engine, do i have to pull the trans out with it? what accessories can stay with the engine when it comes out? what should i do to the engine before i put the new one in? what should be transfered to the new engine (waring harness, sensors, exc)
im pulling the engine regardless i would just like to get an idea on what im getting into
thanks in advance for the help

i believe most of the wirting will stay with the car, i would take off all assesories, starter, alt, ac pump, power steering pump....undo wiring, i believe most things unplug. i think the fuel injectors unplug as a whole....there are a few grounds on the bell housing bolts. there is a "*****" bolt as a bellhousing bolt and its between the trans and engine block in the rear of engine but u have to get to it from the pass side with a long extension or extensions....(18mm) there is also a bracket/mount on the transaxle to engine on the pass side which you can remove to help get the "*****" bolt. also the oil filter housing has to be removed pretty sure.
