Every morning when I start the car up there is the obvious ticking sound coming from the passenger side of the engine bay - almost like it's coming from behind the passenger front tire by where the pulleys are. When you put the car in gear and drive off, it slowly goes away once you are in the higher ranges of 2nd gear. Once the car has warmed up at all, the sound disappears by like 99%. When driving, it almost sounds like an exhaust leak, but I've had the exhaust inpected and no leaks were found. The location of the ticking doesn't really make a whole lot of sense for an exhaust leak anyway. I've replaced the idler and tensioner pulley and recently had the water pump replaced. All of those had no affect on this ticking sound.

    Ideas?

Pull your supercharger belt off and start it. If it still ticks ... you elimated everything on the sc/belt routing.

Also, you sure its not your valves ticking? Oil level full?

    That's a good idea. I'll try that.

It could be the valves I guess, but the oil level is just fine. This ticking has been going on for probably close to a year and it will do it the day after an oil change. It's always when the engine is cold.

I used to have a lifter make a noise...when my LIM gasket was failing... but it eventually went away

Meh. I replaced that not too long ago. I'd say unlikely. The fact that it goes away once warm just completely throws me.

Could be a hairline crack on the flex plate. Seems like you have the same problem as me, still cant find the problem. I going to check all my rockers, push rods and valve springs thoroughly again. Does yours go away when its warmed up?

Fule injectors? Take a screwdriver and put it on the fuel rail and put your ear on the handle of the screwdriver if you hear the ticking then its probly injectors

ever find the problem? for some reason im getting this now too and im stock with a 3.4 overkill tune and 3.8 stock pulley. I took my 3.4 off last beginning of winter and engine has about 79k miles. It also goes away when warm. Im scared because this is my second motor and i just got it installed january (05) motor.

I had a buddy look at it and he's guessing it's just a noisy oil pump and nothing to be concerned about. Who knows....

Well i just went to my mechanic and he said mines could be a noisy lifter that may need to be replaced. It always goes away when the car warms up. Have you had any other problems driving wise?

Ive had this noise in every Gp Ive owned and the motors lasted longer than the cars did. (thanks to dumb@ss drivers smashing into them) Ive been told we just have noisy motors, and it was nothing to worry about.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

I've had no drivability problems whatsoever........well, none related to the engine anyway.

ticking noise on cold start up with it going away as car warms up is usually a lifter hanging up. try seafoam and see if it helps.
