Hey man just take your time with the build I know you wanna get it done, but check, recheck, and rerecheck your **** dude... you dont want to be that guy who blows his motor because he missed something...

dont worry on the build we will be exact on torque and check everything multiple times just to be on the safe side but yeah good words of wisdom man!

Yep Joe, details are the key to a successful build.

Good luck man, don't let the others discourage you. A 3800 can be rebuilt successfully and it has been done many times before. Too many are to scaried to try it though.

At least you have the chance to build a fresh motor the correct way, instead of having an unknown orgin motor in your car that could potentially be a POS....

Please understand..I'm not saying "can't be done". However doing it improperly (not sending the parts to a machine shop) has a high rate of failure because many others have found that the rods and various other parts wear and stretch oddly when compared to other motors. This means bearings etc can't usually be replaced w/o issues.

I wish Joe nothing but the best of luck and success. I am saying that my experience is when the smelly stuff hits the fan... you want another block or a machine shop typically.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

we cant get on his case, remember its his dad who told him to do this. granted if it was my kid i woulda picked up a L32 from Ed and had it rebuilt. but i have knowledge and an automotive background. hopefully the car stays together and he gets it running again. bill is correct, it should have went to a machine shop. as for the rebuilt 3800's i had mine rebuilt, the bearings and balance shaft were shot, and this was a running L32 out of a car. i wasnt going to take a chance on breaking something again. joe i will say it again $1000 and il come pick it up!

His dad didn't blow the motor.

$1000 is way too much for a dead car. I can toss one on the ferry for you if you need a project.
