Hard to describe, but when I stomp on the accelerator the car will boost fine up to about 40mph and then it feels like it's cutting out momentarily. If I give it gas in a more controlled manner it accelerates fine with no hick-ups. I'm hoping an upcoming canned tune solves the issue, but is this a common problem?

    Spark Plugs.
Does the Service Engine light flash when it stutters? If so, it's misfiring and plugs need to be replaced. I had the same problem. It became a safety issue when I couldn't get up to speed fast enough when getting on highway ramps. Another guy on here was experiencing the same issue. I looked for the thread but can't find it now.

rule one of modding is to have a well running engine already, canned tunes dont fix maint issues. tune up time or clogged cat is my guess.

Um, yeah, both of those things are being addressed with the mod. It's the reason I started down this path.

PLUGS! (As mentioned above). DONT INSTALL PLATINUM OR IRIDIUM PLUGS. If youre going to do that 3.4 pulley you mentioned in your other thread, get Autolight 104's. Gapped them to .035 or .030.

That's quite the gap. Are you sure? Stock gap is 0.060

I know some guys are running .055 or .050 with heavy mods (turbo), but never heard of .035

When I had that issue, I was advised .035 from turbo folks (Mind you, this was 2000 or 2001). Do the guys who run .050 blow out the spark? If not, I will try that when I tune her up this year.

NGK TR55's are going in with the mod, along with new plug wires from 3800 Performance. I believe a fat gap (.055) is recommended for them.

get new plugs and wires now, before you do any modding. get the copper core al 104's gap em to .050. they will be fine on the stock pulley and work fine with the tune and your new mods. just take em out before you do the header install, or you will break em.

keep in mind these plugs will only last up to 15,000 miles.

If the plugs don't fix the studder then you may have a bad coil. You can move the coils around and follow the misfires with a code reader to be sure.

I second the possible bad coil. I recommend getting an aeroforce scan gauge or similar before buying anything else. I have run iridium plugs in my car with no problems. I run Autolite XP104. If you are going to change the plugs religiously good old copper is fine.

I would think a bad coil would be bad all the time, not just on acceleration below 40 mph. Regardless, I have NGK TR6's going in after the headers. I've put 25k miles on the car and I've never changed plugs, so I'm guessing that's probably the culprit.

Some issues with the coils only arch under high load. check the gap on the plugs to see if they are bad. just pull the front bank to check. With upgrades you really need to find a way to scan the car to find the issues.

^^^ true. I ran a bad coil for almost a year. Only misfired under boost. You kind of forget what good boost feels like that way.
