I'm about to install my intake system, and just got my heads back from the machine shop. Just had the heads ported and polished. I was thinking about upgrading the exhaust so the car can breath a bit better not to mention sound a bit better too. What kind of headers and exhaust system do you guys run? Do these cars sound ok with the mufflers cut out and just resonator? Any tips would be greatly appreciated or if somebody knows of a thread that I didn't see.

That is not a bad price for those but what do you think of clearance issues with the 03 3.8 headers going into an 07 3.8

Why do people always offer the cheapest route first? Just curious - if I was new here and bought speed daddy's because thats all that was suggested - I would have been pissed.

ok. spend 800 for zzp's over priced headers?

all 3800 engines are the same shape. they fit all years fine.

Well the down pipes are modular and easy to replace if you need : new flex , larger exit, cat delete etc
fitment, style, leaks, coating, primary size etc

Nothing wrong per say with speed daddy's but there are other options depending on what the user is looking for

well she is gonna become a daily driver, ive turned my efforts back to the duster. I just want a bit more power on the highway, especially when I drive up to high elevations. Just came from Colorado in the GP and she absolutely fell on her face and had nothing up in the Denver area. Felt like I had to downshift to second gear to pass someone on the highway up there. I'm just gonna start off simple and small I'm hoping a top end conversion and letting her breathe a bit better will greatly improve performance on the long drives. I do drive up there 3 or 4 times a year since all my family lives up there.

Just trying some ideas and the best plan of attack on this one, because I really only mess with older pre emission vehicles.

thin air will f your cars performance up every time. your car is used to sea level.

exhaust manifolds and the downpipes are the most restrictive part of the GP exhaust.
if you are ok with messing with your headers to get them to work, Speed daddy are good from what ive heard.
if you want one and done, no worries, ZZP sells headers for $500 more. some say they flow better but honestly once you have headers your fine.
SD headers also come with down pipe replacement, though if you want a cat, you need to weld one in.

Not sure if you boosted or not, if you are, with an intake, headers and ported heads, you can run 3.5-3.6 pulley (usually) adds a good bit over stock.

Well if you want a budget build and can fabricate, weld and turn a wrench - there are cheaper alternatives.
Heads are done. Headers and cat back will help. What about your motor. You going to change out that wimpy 3800 cam for s1x/xp

Yes I know, that's why Im gonna try and force more air to make up for it while in elevation. So in the end it will equal out. Even the sound of my car changed in elevation compared to where I live. A very noticeable difference...

I haven't really put much thought into a upgrade to the cam, Like I said Im just trying to get her to breath a bit better right now, I am looking into buying a SC motor so that I can completely rebuild do my add ons and swap out at a later date. I have also been doing research on what the stock 4t65e can put down towards reliable power and it doesn't look so good. Looks like Ill have to find a trans as well or build my stock one. The point of this car will be daily driver first and reliable fun 2nd. I can get a motor from LKQ for right around 600 bucks complete with pcm and harness.

So you are saying you are NOT supercharged? You have the N/A L36?

Headers will make the NA motor more of a dog down low because they don't have forced induction to make up for it.

I'd just go with a 3in downpipe and a plog on a NA motor, no real need for headers. And you'll never ever outflow the stock catback being NA as they can handle 350whp pretty easy. You might make 180whp with what you got going, add a GT2 cam and it might bump you up 10-15 more, then you're at stock gtp power.

So with the N/A heads already $$$ ported , wouldn't most just go turbo at this point ? Unless you want to top swap

Well Im toying around that idea also just because I have a few turbos laying on a shelf hx35 hx 40 and a precision 66mm. Thought about bi turbo, but if I went turbo I'm leaning towards single. I'm just really up in the air about this one. I kind of wanted to keep her a bit tamed, but I love having fin on the street. It might be fun to do some roll racing out here since everyone likes to do the roll racing. My duster is built to go from a dig. I'm just weighing my options right now, I can get an SC motor pretty cheap, or I can use what I have and pull a bit more power. only problem I have at that point, What should I do trans wise, build the stock 4t65e or find an hd and build that. GM cars is a new territory to me, I'm just figuring all this stuff out.

You won't go anywhere fast NA. I wouldn't put any money into as it sits other then to keep it reliable. When you're ready to add power, either topswap or turbo.
